Rolling road update
Just come back from a session on the rollers, my relatively standard U.K spec. bluetop is making 102 wheel hp the only mods. are exhaust and air filter. The compression test was a little strange with cylinders 2,3,4 showing 125 and cylinder 1 showing 175
I suspect the headgasket may be leaking as there is always water in the exhaust and it needs topping up regularly. Gonna have lots of questions if the head has to come off What do you think ? is it worth changing to a 20v ? An analogue brain in a digital World |

A set of decent cams (under 9mm lift) and adjustable pulleys will do alot of good for this figure combined with a chip or slight rev limit raise. If you are changing the headgasket may as well get the head skimmed and put in a .8mm headgasket.
Changing to a 20V is not that much work but they are quite expensive to buy and you will need another exhaust manifold and water lines as well as a decent oil cooler. |

O.K Rossi, what would you expect the mods you recommend would cost ? I would fit the parts myself
Can you suggest cam profiles suitable for rallying. What would the likely gains be ? Thanks An analogue brain in a digital World |

The other thing to concider with 20v is bash in your bulkhead to make the Dizzy cap fit, or buy an expensive relocation kit (not worth it) or go for an engine management system such as VEMS available on Driftworks, if its for a Rally car, id buy a 20v £5-700 cut/bash the bulk to keep costs down, or 20v on VEMS, 16v Headwork is seriously expensive, & you will require engine management to use ITBs, for carbs you need to know someone who can make a ford dizzy fit the 4age.
Here is a Pic of Brother Bettys 20v in the UK, hes black betty on http://www.eight-six.co.uk , sound approachable guy Its a 20v Blacktop on VEMS with a homemade waterline kit, no need to worry about the exhaust, you just need to weld on an extra bit of meat below the outside boltholes to line up with the 20v outside holes An 86 is for Life, not just for Christmas |

Torque is important, currently I have around 94 ftlb at 5000rpm, I understand the 20v makes about 120ftlb
Ideally I would like to achieve a similar figure to this (120ftlb) with an increase in horsepower also, do you think it is possible with just a change of cams/timing ? An analogue brain in a digital World |

Cams around the 270-280 area with 8-9mm lift are what i used to run and keep the power low down. Combined wth some headwork which is easy to see where you can improve even with a dremel. i.e matching inlet manifold ports to head ports and gaskets.
Should set you back no more than £500, i sold a pair of HKS cams for £200. |
