Wheel Bearing Temperature
I've re-packed my front wheel bearings and tightened as per the 86 manual, including reading in various forums on the technique to getting them just right.

I've done about 200kms on them at varying speeds and am concerned that the LHS gets slightly hotter than the right. This was based on feeling the temperature of the dust cap with my hand then with a temperature gun. There is only really about 5 degrees Celcius difference between each side (29C RHS vs 34C LHS).

Is this something to be concerned about? Or is this well within the normal range?

I would say this is nothing to worry about. Your brakes also get hot and transmit heat.

Slightly binding brake ?
I guess the way to test it would be to drive the car some distance without braking at all, coast to a stop and then check the temps. If there is a difference you could then check the disc temperatures.

Thanks for the replies. I should have said that the brakes were not even slightly hot. I've just changed to larger 276mm rotors and 4 pot Wilwood callipers, so this is what had encouraged the re-packing of the bearings.

I was concerned enough about it that I took the calliper off again and they bearings run more free (though with no bearing slop) than they ever have, so probably nothing to worry about.

I'll check it out next time i'm at the track and see if theres any major difference.

The bearings are carrying some load and churning up the grease as
they spin. This will generate a small amount of heat. So long as the
hub spins freely with no noise or binding, you are good to go Smile
