Got the old fingers out of our noses again today. Started by trying to fit an 89 Camry bonnet latch to the Trueno to see if we can fit the new(er) bonnet without using the fuck-ugly bonnet pins.
First problem we ran into was the lack of downward support (as this was removed to fit the intercooler and cooling fan). Without this the whole latch assembly flops around way too much for the bonnet to ever close.
I fabbed up a little bracket for this purpose, but it was for nought since the camry latch is too low. Will pick up another model soon to see if we can find something that works.

For the rest we pulled about all the wiring from under the dash and disconnected it / cut it out. There was a godawful spaghetti under there, an many things where not wired up as they should be, so I'll be redoing all of it.
Maybe NoHachi will post up some pics of the wiring mess as a warning to all people buying swapped cars.

We have reinforced bonnet latch support with triangular shape metal since my FMIC is that place.
Let me find the pic.

You can not see it, but reinforcement is welded behind the latch.

Thanks Zax. Our FMIC is a bit further to the front of the car so I was able to pass a bracket down from one of the bolts that hold the latch. Cant use the original mounting point as the fan engine is right below it. Thought about using the intercooler itself as a base for support, but it is only suspended on 2 brackets and cant take much force.

Anyway.. the bonnet latch can wait for the rest of the stuff we are doing at the moment. We had to take the intake pipe off because the bung for the idle air regulation was situated at the top and fouled the bonnet. Since it's aluminium we cant do this ourselves (yet..), so it has been dropped off at a friend who can help.
Then there is the wiring story. Just finished sorting out the connection diagrams for the main relays and connectors. Next job is to shorten the S13 wiring loom by about 1 meter( necessary on 2 branches ), so we no longer need to have it looped 10 times beneath the dash Confused .

I'll try to integrate a bit more of it into the AE86 loom since there are only a few connections between the two at the moment (of which half did not work properly). I'll get a chance to try out my tacho booster to see if I can get the stock tachometer working with the S13 ECU.
Call me crazy but I actually like wiring work. It helps when the old work looks like it was done by Stevie Wonder, cant do much worse. Tongue

A little progress report..

She's rolling again. Notice the working stock tach, fed through my first tach-booster prototype. I must admit it sometimes lags a little when the revs go up quickly, I'll see if I can improve on that.

Short little list of what has been done:
-All under dash wiring completely redone. Could have been done even neater, but it's a big improvement from how we bought it.
-Boost leaks solved (for now). Replaced some dubious piping and plugged some holes we found. No more explosions.
-O2 sensor replaced... last one went KIA.
-Put a resistor in place of the burnt out knock sensor wiring. This actually did the most for driveability as the ECU pulls 10-20 degrees of timing if it thinks this sensor is broken.

For future reference for anyone looking for this info (because I had to wade through loads of moronic answers about what resistor to use):

CA18DET ECU expects to see about 500kOhm of resistance from the knock sensor to ground. Not 1MegaOhm, which still resulted in faultcodes.

On the todo list:
-APK (MOT) soon....
-Power cabling replacement
-New fusebox (in-dash), since the current one is sometimes unreliable.
-Get the thing to handle... T3 coilovers, and battleversion/T3 rods all round and it still drives like a piece of shit, this will not stand.
-New exhaust
-Paint

Here's some random stuff I've been doing to keep me busy: cut and folded myself..

Did damage the nice alloy a bit, but it will be filled with a handsomer threesome of gauges anyway, so there will be little bare alloy left to blind ourselves with.

edit: today I took it to some faster speeds and noticed no vibrations at all.

So to all people running one-piece-drive shafts -> you have to get the angle relative to the gearbox absolutely perfect! But you can get it to work just fine.

A wheel to steer the front of the car
