To be honest, I dont think the GT86 has any thing in common with an ae86 from an ownership perspective, although they are more than welcome to join if they want.

About the lost 'momentum', I guess there is something to it. There is no substantial influx of enthusiast owners anymore like there was 5 to 10 years ago, so you mostly get guys here who have owned one for some years already. People finish projects, or put them on hold, grow older and less involved in the whole car lifestyle, etc.
That's one of the side-effects of the AE86 becoming a rare sight on the road around these parts.The current credit crisis isn't doing wonders for peoples willingness to invest in old cars either.

Still I think this is a great place for AE86 owners, with plenty of knowledgeable forum users around, as well as being a home for (continental) european 86 owners.
