Shortshifter TRD - Issues
Hi everyone...

I have a question that it is bugging me for some time.... When i swaped the 20V in i still had the OEM shifter on my AE86. My gearbox was opened to check for issues and nothing was found, so the gearbox is still mint!

Car shifted OK no issues at all..... Then i found a decent and cheap TRD shortshifter complete with all the parts.... I assembled it... And......
Well, since day 1 on the new shifter i've been strugling with shifting from 4th to 3rd.... It is sometimes really hard to shift down at the tracks and even with the so called heel and toe becomes really hard....

Most of the times, shifting from 4th to 3rd is smooth like butter sometimes it is a pain....

What could be the cause for my problems with the shifter?

Thanks

do any of you have excessive play when the shifter is in gear?

Probably a gearbox problem more than a shifter problem.
(weak return spring, damaged lever or fork, etc...)

Project D, with the OEM shifter i have no issues at all.....

Bean, no excessive play at all... Shifter is actually very tight and like 85% of the times is smooth...

Heel and toe helped me ALOT with shifting down.... But i still have issues...

The OEM lever has quite a lot of play and the ratio is lower.
Combine less play with faster change speeds and it will show up issues further down the line. Every T50 I have looked inside has had worn shift forks and when this happens the gearchange gets 'clunky' because the shift collar goes slightly crooked as it slides across the gear.
The 'clunkyness' get masked by the slop and slower ratio in the OEM shifter.
I'm not saying that this is the actual case for you but it is worth considering.

I was reading a bit more about this....

And just found this part!

This is a Cusco T50 Bronze Shifter Collar, maybe this could improve my shifting issues?

I'm probably back on the stock shifter as i need to change gears with no issues and stresses....

if you don't have excessive play as you said then this collar wont help what so ever, sorry.

I'm opening that thing to check if the plastic bushing is somehow damaged..... Maybe my issue comes from that thang....
