Speedo sometimes quiets working

Hey Guys,

I'm guessing this is a loose cable but its dark outside right now and tomorow is the MOT retry so I need to figure out what this is. (although if I dont its still up to the previous owners responsibility to fix it)

My speedy sometimes doesn't work. Often a light tap on the instrument cluster fixes it, tonight however, as dead as can be.

I'm guessing a loose wire or something like that. Any suggestions where to look? Do I need to take my instrument cluster out for it?

I often hear guys complaining about the worm gear in the gearbox, which drives the speedometer, it's made of plastic and when it fails..no more speedo. If on the other hand mean your instrument panel lighting fails sometimes, mine does to...it's a common problem. Just keep tapping the light switch until it comes back to life. The problem can be solved by a little creative resoldering of the circuitboard behind the switch. There was a little write-up on club4ag a while back in the electronics section. I havent done mine yet.

Ivan lights work fine..

The speedo just stops working for awhile, and then works again. I just went to pick up some snacks, 10 minutes I hit the gas, suddenly the speedo works again. Hopefully it will work again in the morning

Remove dash get your tacho and speedo meter out and check the cables :-)

What about your MOT? I heard you got it, so no probs with the speedo at all?

It was working the whole day again, it only shuts down from time to time

I think I figured out what is wrong with my oil pressure sensor. Both connector and the part the wire is attached to are corroded. Need to clean them up somehow...
