Strange ignition problem

Since you asked nicely Smile I have the exact same igniter and coil, as shown
in the picture, sitting on my dining room table. It has a 4-pin green plug
attached, and wires like so (reading from left to right...

Red wire: either IGt or IGf and goes to green plug (from there to ECU)
White wire: either IGt or IGf and goes to green plug (from there to ECU)
Brown wire: Power supply, goes to coil +ve and then to green plug
Yellow wire: Tacho output, goes to green plug
Black wire: goes to coil -ve

The IGt wire takes the trigger signal from the ECU to the igniter. The IGf
signal is sent from the igniter to the ECU to let the ECU know that the
igniter has fired. You need both connected for the engine to run.

There should only be one wire on the coil negative, but there may be
several on the coil positive, as that wire is often tapped to get a key
switched supply for other purposes.

Smoke from the wires means you have a short, or have found some
other wire of passing a heavy current thru a thin wire Smile

If the engine struggles when the coil HT lead is connected to the dissy,
it suggests that your timing is over advanced. Try retarding the distributor
by turning it clockwise as far as it will go.

Strange ignition problem
thank you jondee engine now started. wires were wrong. just swapped two around the igf and igt were connected wrong. though after that the engine started only for a few mins then died. fixed that it was.... for those who might want to know one of the pick up pump to surge tank hose was twisted so they was no fuel going in surge tank till i untwisted it. now im just at a point to get the engine running properly. also one HT lead had farr tooo much resistace thats the one from coil to dizzy replaced that ran fairly better. right now the engine seems to be in limp mode sounds like its running reach and doesnt seem to advance il work this one out my self play around change things around ill get there again thanks for all your guys in put

cheers

Check the ignition timing... should be 15-17 deg BTDC at idle on a fully
warmed up engine. Check you have the ECU water temp sensor at the
back of the head hooked up. Check the MAP sensor vacuum hose is
good, and the sensor is hooked up. Good luck Smile
