If its a track car then you really have only one option -> copy what has been proven to work.. Its either that or get all nerdy like me..not something most people enjoy Smile

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

I think Im going to buy some Koni shocks locally and make my own at this stage. The well proven route is just TRD shocks and TRD springs. But I want adjustables as the car will be very light and I need to get it down.

NoHachi Wrote:@4000GT, I don't see how the adjusters for the HTS could be a problem? Aren't they at the top of the shock with HTS?

Yes, adjusters are on top of the rod.
So, it's "in car" adjustments Smile

@ 4000GT

Make adjustable sleeves for standard ID springs, mount them on axle and go HTS.

NoHachi Wrote:Did you ever try setting a bit higher ride height on your car? You could try and see if it feels better. Send me a PM or email if you want the spring setup sheets from Eibach that contain the springs operational ranges.

Pm'd!

I used to have it at higher ride height but the handling got a lot better when I lowered it by just 10mm. It's a bless that the roll center height change on a rear 5 link suspension is minimal! The noise increased, of course only when going over ramps at angle etc.

Yeah I have seen those pics before. Just because its made by the same manufacturer, doesnt mean the quality (tolerance and specification) is the same. I am thinking just getting some Koni or Bilstein shocks and some custom springs to suit now, I just dont seem to be able to get the solution I want off the shelf.

It doesn't mean they are the same quality, but it wouldn't make much sense if they weren't... I mean would a known manufacturer-seller invest in better production methods etc. just for a subcontract of a limited production?

Now as far as specs are concerned, I guess that TRD could design the damping characteristics and ask KYB to make it happen. It actually isn't much, as far as manufacturing procedures are concerned, since the damping specs are adjusted with shim thicknesses, piston orifice number and diameter etc. It would only require a dyno testing session (maybe a couple of weeks tops for one lab dude) and then they would be ready for production of a KYB made TRD designed damper for a specific car.

The production method would not differ, the quality and design of the valves, construction materials etc would typically. I come from a manufacturing background and in companies I worked for that sub contract own the IP of their designs, and specified the product accordingly. Its pretty common to do this in the contract manufacturing market. It obviously didnt make sense for Toyota to acquire or build a shock absorber plant, so contract it out. It by no means assures the product is identical to what an existing product is, in fact, it would almost certainly not be, for obvious reasons.
