Last night on Top Gear, they were talking about a website, where you can find out how many vehicles of any particular type exist in the UK.

Here's the page relating to AE86s...

Scroll to the bottom, and you can see that there's not many original UK spec vehicles on the register.

44 currently on the road and 64 SORN

For non UK readers, SORN = "Statutory Off Road Notice". [registered as being untaxed and off the road.]

My 1986 car is SORN for last 2 years...
