Velocity stacks = more power, now which to get?
Uzelac Wrote:Update ? Do it - open stacks might look nice but that's about it. Directing cold fresh air to the stacks is the way to go. Make sure to make the box as big as pysicaly possible (you can't go too big). AE86 ex-daily |

Can't go to big ?
I plan to make it FRP, with aluminum plate which bolts on throttle bodies and is fixed with screwes to plenum. That way i can remove it or put it on other throttle bodies, if i change them. What input diameter works good? At the moment i have 4x 49mm throttle bodies (yeah i know, they are too big ) but plan something smaller like 4x44 or 4x46mm. |

nope can't go too big.
some inspiration: this is mounted to my friends hillclimb AE86 (~230fwhp) for reference the stacks are 90mm high and the top cover is not flat either. oh and ignore the red line Intake wise I'd say 70-100 should do. At the end of the day size will be limited by space... don't forget to leave some air around it as your engine might shake on start up etc... can't find the engine bay pic but here's a recent video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3sJjqQwK-Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIud0GSMyfU AE86 ex-daily |

Bean, you're a friend of Werner Rohr (and maybe Andreas Lanz by the same way) ?!
I always wondering what kind of gearbox they have (since they have sequential shifter) The airbox of Andreas Lanz: |

Project D Wrote:Bean, you're a friend of Werner Rohr (and maybe Andreas Lanz by the same way) ?! Yes I am, in fact I bought my AE86 off of Andy. If I'm not mistaken they both use a Quaife sequential dogbox, which Andy bought with the money he received from me for the AE . AE86 ex-daily |

Uzelac Wrote:Haha.. great to be honest I can't remember what filter he uses - it's too long ago, the top part closes off that big hole you see to the left... as said 70-100mm should do just fine. Be sure to separate the filter from the rest of the engine bay and direct so fresh air from the front to it and you'll be fine. If all goes well I'll be able to complete my build this spring. Picking up my head during my holidays before X-Mas and sourcing the remaining parts. AE86 ex-daily |

Sorry for resurrecting this month old thread.
Have you considered going brake boosterless thereby possibly freeing up room for a better intake plenum? Another option would be to go with custom stacks: i.e. long and curved upward and possibly slightly forward and having a custom plenum that sits on top similar to the way the factory plenum sits on top of the runners on the TVIS equipped models. I had a discussion with a friend of mine. Does anybody know the optimal lenght of the stacks on a stock Blacktop engine? And were can I buy them?
