u can use toda cams with 8,5 lift without uderbucket, but that's as far as it goes ....

I have at the moment some head work and shaving, with the standard valves.
camshafts ... 288, 8,5 toda on intake and 272 8,1 hks on exhaust ,
all this with ae101 itb's and a megasquirt....

the megasquirt is not fully tuned yet , and the exhaust is still standard, but after the tune and the exhaust i hope to get around crank 170hp (maybe too optimist)

If it is ONLY for street driving, 268 or 272 duration moves the useable rev range too high. 256 and/or 264 combinations are much better. If you are doing some track work then you can go easily go higher but expect to compromise on the street. Still very driveable, just not very useable.

Hey,

I have done some tests. I still have a set of CAT CAMS 256 262 8.5 and 9 mm lift. Standard head with tvis.

The engine gets very slow in lower rpm. And spunky in everything above 4200rpm.

Now if you check this :

Ron has a build an engine with 180+ bhp. You will need ITB to maintain some torgue in lower rpm range. He has red top injectors. (250CC) and camshafts with 9+ mm lift.

He has a valvetrain kit in it. If you really want big power the intake and exhaust are very important and most headers are crap.

So you will need alot of money to make it able to reach 160 hp. But once there the option to 180 or 190 hp is less expensive.
(mostly tuning and camshafts of the ECU)

hey dudes,

sorry to drag up an old thread but i currently have a4age 16v on ITBs mapped on a standalone unit and i am making 180bhp with 272 intake and 264 ex cams. the car is a pure track car but the cams will be junked over winter for a much wilder engine.

my car came in from japan with teh TODA 160ps kit as it had the remap ecu with ignition control and was on std intake with toda 4 branch, cams and fuel reg. all of which has more or less been junked since. Smile

At last Itsuki is gone.....:o)
