Zebra zone windscreen
Last week when I was out for a drive wearing my new sunglasses, I noticed my Trueno has a zebra-zone windscreen. A zebra-zone windscreen is one that has been tempered with heat to ensure it's more resistant to stone chips and this creates an oily radiator-like pattern on the glass under certain angles. I remember seeing this for the very first time on my dad's Carina when I just washed it and the windscreen was still wet.
I never noticed this before on my car with or without my old sunglasses, but due to the polarizing filter in my sunglasses, it became very visible all of a sudden. It may sound like a stupid question from my side, but do all AE86-es have this or is this an indicator my windscreen has been swapped? Dumb question

That pattern (which is clearly visible on some windscreens is something that I've only seen on older cars. So perhaps an early model thing?
Most cars will have had a new windscreens somewhere along the line (mine had a pilkington windscreen) so it's hard to be sure.

I've asked Neil from Juicebox as I remember he recently purchased an original windscreen for his Trueno. He really wanted to own a kouki bronze-tinted one and he mentioned something in one of his videos about it.
So his answer is basically that they had the same question as many seemed to have it, but some don't. He found out that only on the kouki AE86 featured the bronze windscreen as UV-coated and non-UV coated from mid-1986 onwards and those have separate part numbers. The non-UV-coated windscreens are the ones with the zebra zones. This also explains why we only see it on older cars and only some of the later cars don't have it.
Neil is a legend! Thumbs up!

If I remember correctly, my 1984 Trueno with the bronze windows does indeed have this. Haven't had polarizing glasses in a while, so not sure. Didn't strike me as odd though, I've seen that on quite a number of cars.

I think there were two types fitted, one laminated, and the other tempered.
I thought the colours (blue or bronze) were down to the market, ie. Jdm - bronze and UK - blue...

Indeed, the bronze was only available in Japan on the GT Apex

Mine has that also, more noticable when it’s raining. Just had a quick look through my phone and found more, even alexi bean86 has it.
