better answer my ? or i'll send bush to "liberate"
just kidding
i do have questions though, i posted this @ club4ag, but didn't get a response. i m trying to hunt down a 4agze for my ae86 and i have searched the ref section bout the 4agze, it says 4agze is found in the 1st gen mr2, ae92(?),ae101(?) what years are those? the ae92/101 are fwd, does this make a difference if u r planning to swap into an ae86(rwd)? the mr2 is rwd with mid engine layout, can the 4agze from the mr2 swap easier into the ae86 than the fwd 4agze? and the tranny, i have the sr5 tranny. this is a quote from the 4ac to 4ag swap write up about the tranny: "Clutch fork and fluid line locations and bell housing (GTS and SR5 has opposite side clutch fork and slave due to the differences in the exhaust runner location and is extremely important not to run fluid lines next to exhaust systems)# Transmission is the same unit as the GTS (T50C), however the speedometer gear is different, and must be replaced to read correct speed on the cluster. (due to different final drive ratio)" i understand to get accurate speedometer readings u need to replace that gear, but the clutch fork situation. what is that? can my sr5 tranny clutch fork be made to work with a 4agze?or do i have to get a whole new GTS tranny. point me in the right direction please |

But to answer some...
If you have a T50 trans then you are good to go If the bell housing has been bolted to a 4A series engine, it will bolt to a 4AGZE block. It may have the clutch fork mounted to the left or to the right, depending on what it was originally bolted up to. This won't affect you as you are using the OEM trans and clutch operating system that came in the car = no change. If it happens that the exhaust and the clutch hydraulics end up on the same side, some heat shielding and a little cunning will be required :-P AFAIK the GZE flywheel diameter is too large to fit inside a T50 bell. You will either need to remove material from inside the bell to obtain clearance, or change to a smaller diameter flywheel and clutch from a N.A. engine. If you are using the OEM trans and rear axle, there will be no need to change the speedometer gear. I'm not sure if running a GZE with a stock SR5 rear axle is going to last all that long
Depends on your driving though... I do not believe there is any difference in the difficulty or amount of work in fitting a GZE from an MR2 or an FWD Corolla. I'm not sure about the years in which it came, CircuitFreak hopefully will read this because he seems to be well informed as there are several generations of GZE with different power outputs (the first GZE in the MR2 'only' had 145hp or so, while the 3rd gen pushed out over 170).
