Guys i have problem with ignition timming... Now the ignition was on -5 that the reason of unstable engine work. I can turn the dizzy only more in minus and engine died. So i pulled it out end change one tooth. Now i have timming on +20 (engine works stable) but i can only go more in plus... It is not possible to get between +20 to -5. Maybe i shaved the head too much? I have TRD .8 headgasket. Is any difference between 16v stock cams (blue top or red top)?

If you shave the head AND use 0.8 TRD gasket, that might be a bit too much imho...
And bigport and smallport OEM cams are different, the bigport cams are 242 i think, and smallport ones are 23x something... AE86 GT - SR20DET BlackTop //// Trackday beater Citroen C4 Coupe VTR - 1.6HDi //// Streetcar |

Bleutop redtop Bigport : 240°/7.57mm
Hicomp redtop: 232°/7.1 or 7.3mm (don't remember) Is your engine a bleutop or a redtop big port? If yous deck it to the minus i d'on't thick you have too much compression with a 0.8trd you'll be at 10.5 or so... I thing you maybe have moved about 2 tooth insted of one like you said. edit: On top of that you don't need to set up your timing at 10° like the factory said. You have a good aire filter and exaust . you can set your timing between 12.5 to 15° you will have more torck and top end power I have don it on my 86 and on my wife's AE92 Gti SR Team BURN THE RUBER NOT YOUR SOUL! |

first of all how did you get the lock set. it looks good Might want one myselve for the car.
second. If you increase compression its also good to change the spark plugs to one degree colder. Retard the timing to about 12 with the cable between the diagnostic plug (if you don't do that you cannot see the real timing on the engine) Cars: "99 Lexus IS200 "86 AE86 Kouki Panda Levin GT-Apex (restore project) "84 AE86 Zenki Blue Levin (project racer) Motorcycles: "02 Yamaha R1 "02 Honda Hornet S "08 BMW R1200GS |

At first, thanks for reply!
I know about diagnostic plug (it shows me code 11). Maybe because the timming is wrong. In this week and weekend i have a lot of things to do (school, work...). When i find free time i take off one cam cover and try reinstall the dizzy. BOOMEX Wrote:Is your engine a bleutop or a redtop big port?I think it is bluetop... hey bud, timing isn't affected when using stock cams. when you upgrade them, that's when you have to keep an eye out.
bad timing is bad timing. check all your timing points. there is one the crank gear (behind the crank pulley) that aligns with a mark on the oil pump. that sets it to tdc (top dead center) if thats good, then the mark on the crank pulley will sit on the "0" on your plastic (timing) lower cover, the cam gear dots will align to the marks on the plate behind them and the rotor on the dizzy will point to no. 1 on the dizzy cap. if the cams or dizzy is not in line, then adjust them to where they are suppose to be. shaving block and head w/thinner head gasket does not affect timing. it bumps up the compression. which at that point you should be using the high comp injectors, upgrade cams with gears to get the full potential of the mods you have done. hope this helps. te72 wagon ae86 levin coupe project |
