The engine isn't overheating on full throttle ??

4AGE is generating a looot of heat for NA... and just a little glitch in your cooling and a lot of problems (head gasket and the stuff)... and it's 20+ years old so glitches do happen a lot Smile

There are some troublesome pipes for cooling system that get messed up, or losing pressure in cooling system that are almost impossible to see but it's enough to get into overheating troubles (like me and mrgud Big Grin )

When I first got the Ae86 I also thought that it was overheating.
But the temp gauge never went past half of the scale. (mostly on 1/4th of the scale)

On rainy days you can even see the raindrops evaporate on the bonnet/hood.

A friend of mine was driving with me side to side and thought that my engine was overheating aswell...but that's just normal I guess...haha.

Check that your thermostat is not stuck closed. I'm reasonably sure that
the temperature sensor is on the downstream side of the thermostat. So
if the thermostat is stuck closed, very little hot water reaches the sensor.
This means it will still read cool when the engine is hot Huh

It also means that the engine will get hot as there is no water circulating
thru the radiator. Does the top hose get hot ?? Does the engine blow steam
out the radiator overflow ?? Is the water pump belt still there ?? Is your
cooling water the colour of rust ?? Does your chewing gum lose its flavour
on the bedpost overnight ?? :-P
