my slowly 1983 AE86 drift rebuild/ 1979 KE35 recovery
Got a little bit work done to it. Ready for the first drift day 2012, on the 28th of April and another long journey. Smile

Fitted the Tein Top mounts, T3 steering arms and a new steering boot. Welded up a spare Celica TA22 4,1:1 diff to go into my AE86, since my new 2nd hand final drive for the proper TRD LSD did not arive in time!!!

Everyting ready to build a proper exhaust next week.

Took it for a test drive today, small oil leak on oil cooler return and the front right caliper seems to be stuck, need to look at it.

Still need to fix this:

Any help appreciated on that.

Been to Lydden Hill on the 12.05.,What a day Smile, really loved the track, although I´ve never been on a dry track with my Corolla before... At the end of the day, after some tirewall crashing I think I did quiet a few decent laps Smile

Started like this:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

Changed front ride height, rear tires and 2 more clicks on the rear shocks:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

having it:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

loosing it: :smash:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

bit of damage at the end of the day...

Only cosmetic, nothing mayor. I´ll be out asap, need to get a few front suspension issues sorted, quieten down the exhaust.

You´re a lucky guy Thumbs up! Remove the silencer, or is it forbidden at such track days?

I see your frontlip didn't survive the drifting. I'm sure a few zipties will fix it.

Did they complain about your loud exhaust ?

My exhaust doesn´t have any silencers exept for the rear, that´s why I usually use the silencer. TBH I´m feeling to old for riticules loud exhausts Smile
People were actually encouraging me to take out the baffle, wich I did, there were a few cars louder than mine, don´t think ther is a "too loud" on Lydden Hill...

As for my splitter, yeap lost it the very first round, when I smashed into the clipping point rubberblock , collected my bits at the end of the day, nothing a handful of cableties can´t fix.

Allright, started to dissasemble the frontend, straighened brackets and the wing, as I expected I´m definately not the first one who bends the front of this car. Perfect time to change for my RHD headlights.Wink

STILL LOOKING for a RIGHT SIDELIGHT!!!!

Finally I convinced myself to start with the mayor rust issues on my Corolla, started with the A-pillar bottom bit, unfortunatly forgot to take the before pics...

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

Once the door is off, I´ll sort out the front sill and the florpan. I hope this is the worst part of the car, as there is basicly nothing left to start with...

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

That pic was taken when I started, years of rust and sand collected in the sill, oh dear...

The hole is now seriously big, and I recon its going to take me at least 2 days to get it closed...

Done a few things recently:

Fitted a roller bearing to my top mounts to make the steering less heavy ,otherwise you´re turning the sperical bearing, which sucks especially on a non p/s car.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

Qwlded on a spreader plate for my new hydro / bias valve:

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

Finally took the time to sort out the center console, just needs a few bolts going to oem mounting points and I haven´t bouhgt the kill switch/ battery box yet.

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

Anyway back to the more serious business...
As there was nothing left from my front sill/ floorpan I started very slowly, trying to maintain a factory look. I´m now 100% sure this will be a race car, cause the amount of rust is just too much to be a clean shell again, despite the fact that it had an front right impact somewhere along its life.

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - my slowly 1983 AE86 drift r...5 recovery]

As I was working on the front bit I got bored and poked the hammer through the sill Evil
Something easy to fix for a change...
