phill 92 Wrote:Some really nice work mate! Yeap, moved over in February, probably till the end of the year. I´d love to go Ace Cafe, but car won´t be roadlegal by than, I can tell you there is a lot more rust stopping me from getting MOT´s. But it doesn´t stop me from going to Lydden Hill. I don´t have any pipes there, take a pic of it. Is yours a MAF engine? 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

Yeap, just remembered why I love (my) AE86.
Did a lot of all small stuff, last patch on my sill, put the frondend back together, little bit of wiring to finish the gauges and shiftlight, changed a inner tie rod, centered the steering wheel, fitted tires, measured my rear shocks, to get some Gaz coilovers made up. Took the dask out for flocking, whoever trimmed that dash around the cage was either in a rush or didn´t give a fuck about the looks! Lets see how it turns out. 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

my slowly 1983 AE86 drift rebuild/ 1979 KE35 recovery
Haven´t updated this for ages... Time for a mega update!!!
Now I´m trying to remember everything in cronological order: Dash has been flocked, turned out very well, especially if you consider what it looked like before. Redone my exhaust so it sits almost flush with the chassis rails and installed a 2nd hand genuine BMW stainless silencer, as quiet as a mouse with the exhaust bung and reasonable loud and raspy without and I recon I gained power due that bit backpressure. Hydro installation completed, unfortunatly my GAZ shocks weren´t ready in time, so it´s one more time for my leaky TRD blue´s 18.08.2012 My 2nd attempt at Lydden Hill, skills were growing and a hydrolic handbrake is the best you can do to a drift car after welding the diff!!! But as always I forgot to take pictures or videos so this is what I could gather from the internet. I didn´t crash this time:o and the car proved its reliability one more time by surving the day without any trouble. Just one week later (25.08.2012), I agreed to meet up with my friends from Germany to do another drift day in Aachen, which is about a 2,5h drive from the ferry. Did show them what I´ve learned in the UK: Did some nice twinning with a E36 at the end of the day, but I dont think there is any fotage... There are some gopro videos on my mates SD card but I haven´t got them, yet. Visited my family and friends, loaded up all the tires I had stored at home and than made my way back to the UK. I must have done at least 1500 miles pure driving + 1 drift day. So don´t tell me old 80´s shitbox driftcars can´t be reliable and proper bucket seats aren´t comfortable, or its just me beeing a bit nuts... Meanwhile work has become the home of more AE´s: Cause I still had a couple of days insurance on my car I took it out and took a few lifestyling pictures... Parked the AE86 up and left it there for a while, couldn´t afford any new parts, cause previous driftdays and the eurotrip made me uber skint and left me in debt with my mum...:o:o:o As always after driving/ drifting a car for a while you end up finding things that need to be optimised to make the car even better, I always told people, that I was happy with the power of my AE86, but now for the first time I have to admit, that 130bhp are just not enough, even in a lightweight AE86. Just doesnt want to do 3rd in the dry So I made a new wishlist to get it lighter and get a bit more power out of it and started saving money (again). 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

I´ve noticed that my spark plugs are a bit white, due running on stock ecu with intake and exhaust modifications, since I don´t want to go (can´t afford to go) standalone I just thought I´ll fit my FPR that I got a while ago for free. Some nice blingy bits in my engine bay and together with the braided lines it adds a lot of street credit and makes me dirft million times better, Iirc...
In order to make it work you obviously need some sort of gauge to see what you´ve adjusted. I bought this lovely Innovate MTX-L kit for 145GBP delivered from ebay. Very good kit, does datalogging, creates narrow band signals to feed a standalone ecu that don´t support wideband unless you unlock it for big dollar. Funny enough the initial setup, at 40psi turned out to be spot on, alternating between 12,5 and 13,5 and only going up to 14,5 when hitting the limiter. That´s how we like it. Finally only 1 month later and after a lot of missunderstandings I finally got my rear GAZ coilovers. Now its time for some lowering. If anyone is intrested. Your best bet if you want to go coilovers on an AE86 is to go with 1,9" diameter springs, cause ONLY these will clear the turrets. Mine are (unforunatly) 2 1/4" so I had to slot the mounting hole and space the spring perch down, so it clears enough. GAZ offers 2 types of coilovers, 1 set in standard lenght and a set that is about 1,5" shorter than the TRD blue shocks I had before. Perfect if you want to run low. Mine were made to special order with a sperical bearing at the bottom instead of the rubber bushing. Lowering the rear of an AE86 fu**s up the geometry, cause traction issues and axle hop. These tracktion brackets correct the angle of the lower arm back to its original position. The ones I got are a lot better than the ones you´ll usually find. They offer 3 adjustments, wich are drilled ad an radius to keep the pinion angel right, and they are a tight fit not just bolted on. If anyone is intrested, as this type is not avaliable (anymore?) I started making them, CNC waterjet cut and powdercoated, haven´t made a final decision on the price, but it should be around 130GBP mark. 3mm Macrylon rear window, saving me 4,2kg. 1 Macrylon sheet for 110GBP will just completly cover a 2dr AE86 Also fitted my TRD LSD with a better diff ratio, than what my welder ran before (4,3 instead of 4,1) and gave the car a full oil service. After trashing the 3rd gear of my G-box is got better with some fresh Redline MT90. One thing I had planned for a long time is to change my doors, mine are rusted to fu**, as the mounting points for the hinges are rusted out the rest of the doors. Got some lovely FRP doors with 1 carbonfibre/ aramid layer on the inside for splintering protection. Again with macrylon windows. I know that massproduction fibreglass parts fit bad, but the hours that went into these doors to get the locking, key, and handle functions working, together with making it fit into the car... This picture was taken on 06.10.2012 about 4:00 in the morning, just hours away from the next Lydden Hill drift practise day. Packed the car with 6 sets of tires, tools and spares and went to bed for probably an hour... Made it to Lydden Hill, too late, missed 3 sessions, but at the end of the day I got my 6 sessions destroying 6 sets of tires. Finally had the balls to manji the straight after the paddock bend did a few good ones but I nearly crashed backwards into the barier when I lost it once, that was incredible lucky, as it only left scuffs on my rear quarter. As a summary, all the mods made the car better again, I got more seat time and fell confindent enough to booked the BDC licence day in November. Until than I´m waiting for a pair of used 264° HKS cams, gonna relocate the battery and spend the money on cornerweighting the car and get the suspension set up, cause at the moment it works, but I have no idea what its set to. I´ll add pictures and videos of the last practise day as the turn up in the next couple of days 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

my slowly 1983 AE86 drift rebuild/ 1979 KE35 recovery
In preparation for the BDC Licence day @ Lydden Hill, I haven´t done much since the last Lydden Hill practice day, cause all the car need is more power, which obviously can´t be changed within a couple of days, as it requiers an engine swap...
Played a litte with the suspension to get it lower, rolled the arches to accept all my wheels without changing wheel spacers, topped up the oil. And bought a shitload (5pairs iirc) brand new of Yokohama A539 185/50/14´s wich will play the main part in my misery later on. I´m guilty of going to a licence day without the intention to compete next year, but I was curious to see what its like to do judged runs and how I´m doing compared to others and maybe even gain a licence Turns out I´m shit and didn´t get a licence To make excuses for my bad performance, I blame my new veery grippy tires in a car that it not able to smoke them....110bhp+ 0 camber. No matter how I threw my car into the first corner it just bogged out before the 1st transition, were I shift from 3rd to 2nd and than the same shit as I was getting ready for the big bend shifting up to 3rd, clutchkicking, it just whouldn´t have it... Wasted all my practise runs trying to get those Yokohamas to work, but with no results. Finally came to the conclusion, driving like this wont get me a licence, so I canged to my normal slightly bigger but a lot less grippy part worn tyres. Not done a single practice run on them made me spin 360° on the entrance of my first judged round, cause I wasn´t expecting so much less grip:wack: softened the suspension to get some grip back, 2nd run was me getting used to my car again and 3rd was a good run, and thats what the judges thought as well 3rd run was semi pro worthy Collected quiet a few nice pictures over the last week, thanks to all the photographers!!! check out the siick lock! Upps, wait, actually its me spinning :o These are a few of the other pics, from the licence run and the practise session: And even my fucked up last round was captured... I´m booking the Lydden Hill Weekender in Decemver this week, not much to do on my car, I´m trying to get my new 4,7:1 spool diff ready, but apart from that all I need is loads of 185/55/14 My AE is also going on the dyno to get a powerfigure and have a look what I´m currently pushing, this could help me trying to figure out what engine I´m gonna build/ put in my car next. So many choices... 7AGE, C20XE, 3SGE or even an SR20DET, all depenging on costs, the power I can get out of every setup with the same money... 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |
