Today I finally had a chance to drive my friends Miata..nothing much done to it..just bushings and Tein SS..I stole Ivans AE86 to pick up some rims, so I got a nice comparison between the two cars.

The miata is the better car..period. It corners faster on smaller tires, almost no body roll, steering is instantanious (that amazed me most) and it does all of this while being infinately more comfortable then the hachi. This was a surprise too, because Ivan is running around on pretty low springrates and non-race shocks.

The whole ae86 experience is much rawer then the miata and thats exactly the reason why I still like it..It has its flaws, but like the miata manages to completely involve the driver in the driving process. So in the fun department, both are way above average. The AE86 may be a bit easier to drive even.

But the next track car is definately going to be a miata..with just a 600 euro suspension I am absolutely sure I would have been spanking the elises at the autoX..Fast cheap fun reliable and plenty of new factory parts..as a package it just makes sense.

I tottaly agree on everything except that the 86 is an easier car than the MX.
Who can you say that?
At least my 86 -with the gze- was quite a bitch, and bad streering felling makes it even worse.

Anyway lets stop this cause people will sell their A86 Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Snap oversteer is why..the miata has an even shorter wheelbase then the ae86 and (usually) no LSD. I like to drive at fairly low speed, but always with a small slipangle..easier to do with the ae86..you don't have to puch it, throw it, rev it or anything else. The diff kicks te rear out anyway (mind you..the tires are not breaking away..just coming close to their max.slip angle). Miata had to be pushed much more to have fun. Meaning you are going a lot quicker when trouble does start.

Another reason might be that I learned to drive in an FWD car and still prefer understeer as my basic mode of operation.

Oh, I'm not bothered by that at all. I think you are the one who says you are driving a "girly" car. Big Grin
