no ignition on ae86
Quote:no ignition on it Does this mean : 1. The engine cranks (turns over) but does not fire ?? Or... 2. The engine does not crank (= starter is dead) ?? no ignition on ae86
Try to narrow it down a bit Have you got any spark at all when
the engine is cranking ?? Cheers... jondee86 The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. |

no ignition on ae86
hello
i have a spark now and again,im tracing the wiring but im thinking it is the ignitoror the unit that the ignitor sits on,it has two poles on it,any idea what voltage would be on that unit when the key is turned??? |

no ignition on ae86
The unit the ignitor sits on = the ignition coil if I'm not mistaken. It should have a permanent connection to +12V on one end(+), and the signal wire on the other(-).
So that would mean you need to have 12 volts on the + pole of the coil when the ignition is turned on. (the way it works is that the signal wire pulls the - pole to 0 volts, causing a current to flow through the coil from + to -, which in turn creates a current in the main coil, much like any AC transformator) FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

ok,i should have permanent 12v+ on one side and a signal from where??on the other (i presume the ignition).you say the signal wire pulls - to 0 when its activated,am i right in saying this???im new to this cracjk excuse my ignorance
thanks for the help |

no ignition on ae86
The signal wire should be controlled by your ignition unit, which is the little thing mounted on the coil.. that one is triggered by the ecu.
When the engine is not running, but the ignition is on, both poles should have 12v. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

You sure it's the spark that cuts out?? Describe what happens, and when it happens, and also what you have tested and how you've tested it.
Going from experience I can say that the most common starting problems on ae86's are electrical in nature, the following are well-known classics: -Bad circuit-opening relay -loose grounding wires on the engine if the engine runs some of the time, then the ignition must be OK, otherwise it would run like shit.
