Hello there...some answers for you:
Yes it has been done before (at least twice as far as i know of). But I wouldnt go as far as saying it fits. It requires LOTS of modifications to stuff it in there. You could try to use the ae86 gearbox, and probably blow it to pieces on the first run..along with the axle/differential. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Yeah as Ivan said it takes ALOT of work to fit it in there, people find putting a SR20det in a AE86 easer even thought its still alot of work. Mind you if you have money, engineering knowlage then I see no reason why it cant fit...I would stay away from the T50 gearbox...maybe try a W55 from a Supra..they can handle V8s.
Keep us informed, sounds very interesting. Oh and welcome to AEU86.ORG I once read that you shouldnt believe everything you read. |

Sounds like a cool project. Please do keep us informed, its going to be one killer conversion. The power will be good as the weight of the AE85 is nothing compared with a Skyline.
Best of luch with your conversion I once read that you shouldnt believe everything you read. |

Hilux diff's seem to be popular in New Zealand... they are a very strong diff and easy to get your hands on. Why not spend some big money and get a TRD LSD...they are known to handle a good bashing.

Quote:Yes it has been done before (at least twice as far as i know of). True, but neither of those cars has ever seen a corner in its lifetime..Very nice dragracingcars. Regarding final-gears..junk the original axle ( you will snap those like twigs) and start looking for either a celica-supra rear axle (moderate power) or a 9" Ford rear-end (stupid power).. Whatever way you look at it..there will be little left of the original hachi when you finish. You have to fabricate a new firewal and transmission tunnel to get the engine set-back to reasonable values..If not then you end up with an already very heavy engine, concentrating its weight in front of the front axle-line..(aka understeer understeer understeer). I personally believe that it would not be fun to drive..but horsepower kan make up a lot for some.. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |
