I you are buying an AE92 engine, make sure its the later spec (hi-torque) easily spotted the T-Vis manifold has lines running down it where the early one is smooth, should be found in a 1990 onwards corolla gti.

Late Hi-torque 4age

Note lines on inlet manifold

Early 4age as found in original ae86s/MR2/gt/gti

Note smooth inlet manifold

They don't use TVIS.

yes the first image is the late 4age without! TVIS and smallport head 10,3 compression as i see, from ae92 1993above i think.
Rare engine in eu i hope i will find it.

but another question about late 4afe in E10 and E11 corollas, have they the same bottom end and internals as 4age? and then which modification ribs, pistons, compression?

Nope. They have weeker internals. I was considering bying 4afe block, but then found that crank and other internals are weeker.
A month later I found my redtop.

Correct, badly worded Banging head the ae92 1987-1989 are T-Vis 1990-1991 are non T-Vis Thumbs up! very common car in the UK, you can pick an engine up in any breakers yard for £150 (225yoyo) or a complete car for about 300yoyo

perhaps 400 miles/litre of oil is normal in these engines, as stated it is an early AE86 with the 3 rib block and about 85k miles.
most of the fast stuff we do is in the dead of night so seeing black smoke is, I guess, a problem ! no sign of oil vapour on the rear valence though.
what do you think guys, should I change it or just kill it first ?

first kill it....then you'll at least be sure. But please dont neglect maintenance...it might last you longer than you would expect..(they can take a lot of abuse as long as you warm em up properly)
