warm idle 1500 rpms wont go down.

i have a 85 corolla gts 4age blue top. its all stock except the exhuast system, for the engine mods. when i first got the car it was idleing at 1500 rpms after it was warmed up. i lowered to rpms too 1100 using the idle adjuster screw. its been about a half a year and now the idle is back at 1500 rpms. when you first turn on the car the oil pressure also shoots up to the top and goes down after its warmed up. this started happening about 3 weeks ago. about the same time the idle started acting up. you think these two problems might be linked? also i have checked for leaks and found nothing.

make sure there is no air in the cooling system, there is enough coolant inside it and there no blocked tubes. :wink:

there is enought coolant in it. theres is a small leak in the coolant line in front of the vehcial. i do burp the system every month becuase i have to fill up the reserve tank every month. by blocked tubes do you mean for the air or the coolant lines?

i mean blocked coolant lines especially the two ones under the intake!!!

To check if the Auxiliary Air Valve (AAV) is causing the problem by
staying open after the engine warms up, do this:

- Take off the intake air ducting from the front of the throttle body.
- With the engine running and warmed up, block the AAV air port with
your finger. It is the large hole at the bottom of the throttle body, just
in front of the butterfly.
- The idle speed drops by about 100 rpm, the valve is closed.
- If the idle speed drops by 500, 600 or more rpm, then the valve is
not closing, and must be repaired or replaced.

In general repairing is limited to cleaning the valve if it is jammed open
with corrosion or rubbish from the cooling system. If this does not help,
get a new valve. It is a wax filled thermostat, and after 20 years or so
they get a bit tired

I am having this problem at the moment. Anybody got a AAV they want to sell me? I will be putting in the 20V soon but for now need the car to idle inorder to pass emissions!

If the idle is OK while you have the AAV port blocked with your
finger, just stop up the port with a small rubber plug. Make sure
it is something that won't come loose and get sucked into the engine.

The other possibility is to remove the AAV and block up the hole
that is left with a piece of 5 mm aluminum plate cut and drilled to
the correct shape. The AAV is there to improve cold starting, but
you can crack the throttle to keep the revs up until the engine gets
warm enough to idle.

hai there.... i have same problem like you to.my oil pressure also at the peak when i turn on the key, then drop to the normal whan a few second.. yesterday i open and service my trottle body and AAC what i do to make sure the acc operate as normal first i put it into the my freeze and the result the coil totaly close then i boil it the result spring is open so that thing was normal... i also flush my coolant system.
... but my idle still at 2000 rpm at the cold enjin morning start... after i drive for 15 mile the idle drop to 1450 rpm... so what do you think..?

Normal operation of the AAV will lift the idle speed to 2000-2200 rpm
on a cold start, and then drop to 800-900 rpm as the engine reaches
operating temperature. This should take no more than 5 minutes or
2-3 km of driving.

In Malaysia you do not need the cold start idle up system (AAV).
You can disable it, either temporarily or permanently, as outlined
above. You can also disconnect/plug up the water heating system
to the AAV. Many people have done this, and their cars start and
run just fine

Do this first, and then see if you still have a problem. Maybe you will
have to adjust the Idle Speed (air bypass) Screw to get the warm idle
speed to 800-900 rpm.
