MSD 8980 setup - which wire does the dizzy connect to?

Hi all,

I'm in the final stages of my carbed 4AGE setup but I need to know which cable goes from my 4age dizzy to the MSD 8980 timing computer.

the dizzy has 3 wires going out a white, blue and red which needs to connect to the white going into the MSD timing computer but which one?

Please post a wiring diagram of the MSD.
What signal does the MSD require? RPM or ignition impulse?

It depend of your dizzy (and the signal that the MSD need)

VIOLET wire from MSD should be connected to RED OR BLUE wire from the dizzy (I would say the RED)
and the GREEN wire to the WHITE from dizzy.


BTW I don't run on carb nor MSD, I just read the MSD manual so I may be wrong.

Try, since it's a VR sensor they're is no risk to damage anything

it requires an ignition pulse.
which upon further research means it will be using the green & violet cables:

still not sure what it needs to connect to in the way of the dizzy

open your dizzy and look which wire goes to the sensor front of the wheels with 4 teeth -> this is the wire you will need
(the white wire is the ground for both sensors)

cool I had a look when fitting the rest of the unit and if its the 4 teeth sensor then i know which cable to use. thanks

1 tooth = 1 spark so 4 cylinders = 4 teeth
