A few significant differences... TE7x means... (x = 0, 1, or 2)
1) It uses the hemi head T engine. There was a 1600cc version 2T, and an 1800cc version 3T. There is also an 8 valve twin cam version TG. 2)The T also means the steering is worm and roller. There are a lot of chassis similarities between the TE7x and the AE86. All the suspension mounts are the same, you can use anything designed for the AE86 suspension on a TE7x. Well everything except the upper strut mount. On 1979-1982 all the xE7x chassis had a slightly different upper strut mount. There is a one year exception to this rule... 1983, Toyota offered the AE7x chassis. The upper strut mount is now the same as what will be available on the AE86... and the steering on an AE7x is rack and pinion, like an AE86... The AE7x came with the 4AC engine Now you might be asking youself whats the deal with the steering difference.... The steering difference is significant to what engine you can use.... The worm and roller steering models make it VERY difficult to use a 4AG, the later AE7x, has different steering, it uses a 4AC... so a 4AG fits with no issues. The rack and pinion steering also makes steering response quicker Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! OST Porting service - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19991 |

awesome Dan
I want to fit a 4AGE. Can you tell me the procedure about the steering ? 1/ modify the original one ? 2/ put the one of the AE86 with modifications ? Thanks |

I BELIEVE (I don't know) that you need....
a crossmember a complete (inner and outer tierods included) steering rack a steering column (toyota made them different lengths... not sure if the steering box column matches the rack and pinion placement. The last one you might be able to make something do by using parts from other cars to fit the two together... if they don't fit together on their own. A quick lesson in AE86 rack and pinion... P/S... manual steering. *IF* you plan on being JoePro drifter... you may want manual steering... It is true a manual rack is quicker... BUT if you have no rack... ANY rack is better than no rack!!!! oldeskewltoy Wrote:I BELIEVE (I don't know) that you need.... Thanks To be honest, i am more Track than Drift, bu ti will do sometime to have fun. But in any case, i prefer manual steering, not power steering But as my car was swap to diesel, i might have a W gearbox which is apparently good for 2l engine 3SG something (sorry i am much better in Honda stuff ) |

I had a couple of TE71's before moving onto AE86's. The main difference for me was that the AE86's in the UK had less rust in them, my TE71's were see through in places.
You don't have to swap the engine to a 4age, the 2TG with it's twin cam yamaha head can be tuned every bit as well as the 4age. |
