4age (87-89) engines at Fensport

I was looking at fensport for engines and there's sth I'd like to clear:

On their page it's written:

4AGE ENGINES 1987 - 1989

Due to the lack of high quality low mileage Engines in the UK, we are now Importing 4AGE Engines from Japan. These Engines have usually only covered 50 - 80,000 miles, they are all the later type with strengthened blocks, larger crank journals and the cylinder heads have harder valve seats for Unleaded fuels. They are a DIRECT FIT in to your AE86 using your own exisitng ancillaries


I'm wondering what are these engines (are they red top ?) ? Are they really direct replacement of a blue top (without changing ecu, wiring, etc) ?

@Draja, i have fitted one of these engines into a car.

These are red top tvis engines, so they have the 7 rib block etc. They are from front wheel drive cars so there is a little work needed to fit them, i.e. swapping over engine mounts, tvis, all ancillaries, fitting a spigot bearing etc, but on the whole it is pretty straight forward swap, no need to change ecu or the wiring

Fennsport is way too expensive!!

A guy here in the Netherlands bought his 4E-FTE (1.3 16V Turbo from a starlet) there for about the price you can get a complete frontcut delivered from japan!

True Fensport are not known for their bargin prices, but there is not much competition for them

well, with forums like these there is the competition of private sales. There are plenty of bargins to find, just need to have a place to trade...

I agree that fensport is quite expensive and they also don't have much used parts - a lot of them listed, but many of them not available

I have one of those 4A-GE's, they are ok, but a little heavier internals, they are a little more slow, but I think they are stronger (only time can tell that)

@ dreja, fensport used to be the place for spares here, but as cars have got rarer (all went to Ireland) and more expensive they no longer buy cars to break and sell the bits. You should try list members, sounds like there is a rich source right here. For instance i have a garage full of bits ...

@ gon. The later engine is stronger and less likely to kill a bearing, but if you want to build a high revving car then the earlier engine is the one to base it on. Dave Hollinger (see CBY flares thread) was also asking about JB motorsport, and he was not sure of them. It might be that they don't want to know about international ? I can help there if you want, let me know what you want to ask and i can see if a UK address helps.

I There, I am thinking of putting a 4AGZE in my AE86, From what I have read in your site, you ship engines from Malaysia, but If I order one, will it come from UK or you send it Directly from Malaysia to Portugal ?



I am asking this, because if you send them directly, that will raise the final cost very much, because of Portuguese costums.



Does the package come with everything to make a 4AGZE work in good conditions into an AE86? What about the fuel pump? I have read that The ae86 fuel pump will not be enough for a 4agze ....



What are the payment methods that you accept?

Are these red top tvis engines (sold at fensport) like the engies in ae92 ?
