Hello everyone!
Well guys, I've been a member here for a while, I've wanted an AE86 for a few years now.
Instead I got one of these. It is featured in a calendar, but this is just my daily driver. I decided to go on to purchase this today! Oh. It comes with a 92 corolla engine that's brand new? What is this engines name? How easy is this swap? Thanks guys! Sorry if I broke any rules. |

Hello everyone!
Well hopefully its a 4AGE. Why don't you send us some pics of the engine and the parts that you need identified? well help you out.
AFAIK you didn't break any rules Oh yeah.. welcome to the club buddy.. Cheated on my いたずらな女の子 and now I can't get enough of her.. |

Hello everyone!
No.. it's not 4AGE.
I found out the engine he bought is a 4AF Crate engine made in california. Basically useless for my build But I have an idea. I want to build the 4AC engine, he already has a ton of parts for it, like a clutch, flywheel, gasketset, new bearings (Thats what the engine needed). So here's what I'm thinking. I want a new carb set up, What should I go with that would bring the most HP? Are the 4ACs cranks internally balanced? How does an underdrive pulley sound? I am going to Port and polish the hell out of everything to maximize volumetric efficiency. Intake and filter will be a must. Header and exhaust will be good too I think. Lopey-er cams and better springs help a lot I've heard. Is the fuel/oil system good enough to handle sideways forces of drifting? Is it okay to weld my diff? Any other ideas that will help me stay in a reasonable budget and keep up with the 4ag guys? Thanks a ton guys! |

Hello everyone!
hmm.. I think you should start with a 4AGE. lol.. I'm sure over there you can easily find a 20v BT 4AGE and a T50 gearbox. It should be able to handle the 170hp the BT wil output and from what I've heard from the experienced guys here in AEU86 such as Jondee or our awesome moderators even 200hp on the T50 is not much of a problem unless you're going to be sideways the whole day.
Is there a particular reason why you'd wana stay carb? Cheated on my いたずらな女の子 and now I can't get enough of her.. |

Hello everyone!
Hey there Lofty, congrats on the new relationship Hard to tell from the pics, but seems like the car has potential! So if you have a 4af in there now, its making around 110 hp, which is close to a standard 4ag anyway, maybe just not as perky - but i've seen these engines in '92 corollas and they are quite fast - definately no reason to go back to 4ac which is quite a poor engine by itself. Its not makeng even 90 hp, and youre be lucky to make anywhere close to 100 hp with the mods you mentioned.
With that said, the best way to really start enjoying this car would be to find a 4ag engine, make a nice rebuild, with some auxilaries such as air intake, exhaust etc.. Than later on you can mess with the cams, headwork, intake (itbs maybe) etc.. But before all that you will want to concentrate on suspension as this car benefits from such mods the most. decent shocks, new bushings (get a prothane kit that we all love so much, and its cheap at 150$), a bit stiffer springs, GTS (or beter) antirollbars.. so for me it would be: -bodywork (if neccesary) + service -4ag engine -suspension -driving -driving -driving -... -modifications good luck! |

Hello everyone!
I wanted to keep the 4AC because he has a bunch of parts for that little engine anyways!
I've red up on 4AGE swaps and it seems kinda complicated. Is there a "SIMPLE" 4AG swap guide? The 4AF won't even fit into the Haachi I've found out. |

Hello everyone!
Oh i thought he already fitted the 4af..
Well the swap is really not that complicated. You just need the engine and complete harness with ecu. Than you throw out everything you have in this car and replace with new engine and harness + ecu. Tranny is the same i think, and rear axle with lsd would also be nice.. or you can jsut go for the real deal (1.5 or 2 way LSD form TRD, Kaaz, Cusco, Tomei, whatnot..). Unless you gonna go pro from the start and you'll build a hardcore engine tahn you might as wll go with standalone ecu.. but that kind of building requires much more attention to other parts of the car (transmission, suspension, brakes, chasis work etc etc.. Your best and easiest bet would be to find a GTS in poor condition or crashed to act as a donor car. |

Hello everyone!
I don't want a complete GTS conversion, I'd be happy just welding the rear diff and keeping the tranny (Which I heard you can't do for a full gts swap)
So now some parts identification. What engine is this? The reciept says it came out of a 92 Corolla. What are these parts? Is this a 4age head? If it is, can I swap it onto the other engine? What does this Intake mani go to? |

Hello everyone!
Well in that case just rebuild this carbed engine, and focus more on the suspesion.. than when the time is right you can do a swap. Welded diff is a bit hardcore for daily driving, you will have loadz of problems in tight turns, and as this diff/axles are not the strongest pieces around, they probably would brake pretty soon.
As for the indentification.. 1. picture show a 4AF engine, dohc, 16v, cca 115 hp. Its close to a 4AG from the GTS, but alitle more economy-ized. Changes are small, but everything is different almost. 2. and 3. pics show 4AG bigport head. It would probably fit the 4AF engine, but you need to note, that the bottom end also differs, so it wouldnt actually be a 4AG.. plus i heard that the 4AF bottom does not hold well.. 4. pic carries a manifold of a TVIS-powered FWD engine such as 4AG in ae92 corolla. The biggest difference form the RWD 4AG manifold is the orientation. You could make it work for a rwd, by transfering the inlet hole to the left of the plenum, requires cutting and welding aluminum. Hehe man looks like you have a litlle of everything Hard to tell what can be combined now and what not. With enough effor you could probably build something, but im just not sure how all of this would work together and what ECU to use.. plus, youre missing alot of parts. If you want the cheapest soulution that will work, just stick to the 4AC carby that you have in now, service it and drive, improve the cars chassis and suspension as it is deffinately worn out by now... Meanwhile you can source a proper 4AG. |

Hello everyone!
I think I'm going to sell all my extra parts, and rebuild the carbed one and use the money I got from the extra parts to spend on body work ETC.
I don't think I'm going to DD this, so the welded diff should be okay. This is just a little drifter project. I've always wanted an AE86. So anyways, has anyone ever been able to drift the SR5? It looks like its possible but I can't be too sure. |
