@max78 if your exhaustpipes are still original try replacing the last bit going over the axle to the muffler (usualy there's a kink in it and from there the diameter gets smaller, which is a big restriciton)

Hi Guys,
I'm looking at buying a set of Catcams for my new engine. I have an 86 MR2 (sorry, no AE86) with a blacktop 6 speed conversion. I'm doing a complete wiring harness swap so that I can run all of the 91 high compression parts - computer, knock sensor, big injectors (215cc I think), etc. I also have or will be using: Complete small port bottom end blacktop rods approx 11:1 compression (TRD .8 mm HG and .020/.5mm shave on the head, and 10.3 pistons) Total Seal rings Custom "mid port" head - this is a big port head with the intake ports slightly reduced in size. I will also be port matching a small port intake to fit. Doing this on a mill so that I can take out material about 3" into the intake port. O/S valves, will do some porting in the bowls and also on the exhaust side of the head, running toda springs TRD header (will later be replaced with a BT header and custom pipe) with mandrel bent 2 1/4" stainless exhaust light flywheel (4.7kg) adjustable cam gears low drag water pump under drive pulleys for alt and h2o pump, light crank pulley 6 speed with 4.529 gears and the wonderful close ratios - can you tell I LOVE the 6 speed!?!?!? My problem is, I live in California so I have a problem passing smog testing if I change too much. I'm wondering if anyone has video with sound of the Catcams7105137 cams. I think those would be best suited to the rest of the engine. I'd like to hear the idle quality. Full info on my car on my website as listed in my siggy. Also, wondering if you guys are running on roller type dynos. Here are a couple of videos of mine on the dyno I'm using: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSxJCrPRcKo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyLY1wPqt...re=related |

tolisspi Wrote:mcm95403 they'll be on the hubs most probably as on most dynapacks - hubs to fly/crank difference isn't much usualy <10% AE86 ex-daily |

Bean Bandit Wrote:tolisspi Wrote:mcm95403 That is HP at the wheel only. The dynapack typically reads lower than a roller style dyno, but it's also supposed to be more accurate. We usually figure on 15% drivetrain loss with the transaxle though. The MKIII (Spyder) is lower at about 10% - but they don't seem to last either If I hit 130 on the dynapack, I'll be very happy! |

For Robokill and anyone else running high compression:
Have you done a compression test, and if so what pressure did you see? I did one on my new engine last night and got 185-190 psi (13 kg/cm2). I'm wondering if I'm in the same range as the rest of you. I ended up with the block decked .010" and the same amoutn taken off the head, plus a TRD .8 head gasket and smallport pistons at .5mm oversize. Still running stock cams for now, but want to go with the Catcams 260/252 combo later. |

tough to get ACCURATE results when you have swapped in cams....
compression tests use a pressure, measured in #s This is based partly on piston and cylinder... but a 2nd variable is when the cam opens and closes....allowing the air in and out LOOOONG duration cams will have "relatively" low #s Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! OST Porting service - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19991 |
