Surreptitious.....
Well, with temps actually ideal, Mark made it over in his new pocket ride and just about finished the wiring!!!! There are a few pieces I still need to acquire to actually make it possible to finish(TPS clip and wires, alt, starter, 10' of 4 gauge welding wire, and some other bits)
Mark has been camera shy... but I did promise a photo That's Mark saying, "hi" The other reason for this photo is showing the management system wiring harness, and components, PRE made for this job by Marshall @ Jackson Autosport. Mark was VERY happy with this part of the job, it was a pleasant stroll compared to the chassis job. My investment in a premium wiring package was well worth it considering 95% of the management system is now fully wired in - in one session!! As the photos show... some changes are taking place - (Aaron, I'm SOOOO glad we didn't weld that coil plate on to the firewall!!!) Before today - the location to mount the coils...as of now, it turns out it is required as the pass through for the wiring harness plugs! Mark tells me a Supra/Cressy firewall grommet should work here.... The coils will be "relocated" to the frame mount, the ignition wires will be routed through the gap in the intake manifold between cyl 2 & 3 Note yellow zip tie... that plug is for the wideband. There are a few more "discoveries" about my management system I had forgotten fuel pressure monitoring, and oil pressure monitoring...besides oil temp. Both pressure sensors need to find a place to be mounted, I believe I have both of these places figured out. Oh, again, sorry for the crappy photos... but most are clear enough........ note the fuel rail in the photo below... well, no 5th injector is need(small banjo bolt behind big one), SOOOO, I'll be having the fuel rail's 5th injector fitting re-sized to accept a 1/8NPT fitting(fitting on end of pressure sensor[s]) That solves the location for the fuel pressure monitor, but now what to do about oil pressure...... The photo above shows many new things... but for purposes of the oil pressure monititor... I have to check, but I see no better location to fit the oil pressure monitor but at the treaded plug on the oil pump! I'll have to find an adapter to go from the oil pump plug to 1/8 NPT, but there should be something available. So, with my two new pressure monitor sensor locations solved, what other goodies do we see in the above photo... crank angle sensor fitted to crank angle sensor mount, and the "new" cam angle sensor fitted. With the engine compartment wired, work proceeds inside the car.... as the system finds a home... No A/C = no A/C box... allows mounting of the ECU just behind the duct work, down towards the floor. Note the small square plastic box on the end of the wire... hanging in front of MORE WOOD... well that small square is the USB connetor. That will be mounted in the glove box and is my ECU's portal to the world As Mark was fitting the system, we talked a bit.... the FJO system will be leaving NOTHING on the table, and should make the Loynings engine perform as well as it was designed too Things are now TRULY getting close! The parts list isn't that large... a few odd ball parts needed to get it fired: rwd tranny/block steel plate, ae92 GTS clutch kit(both needed to install trans), coolant gauge sender, adapter for pressure switch, and others as noted above.... What did you use for the cam sensor? Looks like a butchered standard distributor, but are you using the stock toothed wheels or something custom?
Also, how necessary is it to have both a crank sensor as well as a cam sensor? I'm interested in these kinds of things since I have a couple of megasquirt projects in the pipeline for which I had different ignition setups in mind. To be exact: a simple Ford EDIS setup for starters, but I'd like at least a wasted spark setup at some point since I'd like to have the launch control and spark cut capabilities that EDIS lacks. Normally a cam sensor is only used when you want to do either:
a: sequential injection b: non wasted spark For everything else a simple crank angle signal is sufficient. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

Living in Portland, Oregon, USA, I have to stay under a maximum allowable emission level, the combination of sequential injection and wasted spark should help me keep the emission levels below the maximums The distributor/cam sensor was "remanufactured" by Jackson Autosport in Canada. They are the folks who built that snazzy vibration free crank sensor mount as well. Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Quote:I did some basic shaping of some aluminum plywood edging (how did wood get back into this project???) Some parts you get at the dealer... some parts you get in the aftermarket.... some parts you get at the junk yard, or a friends.... but some parts are just not available unless they are built expressly by, or for you. These are one of those parts... weighing in at under 4 ounces!!! The welding could be better, but they are structurally fine - and free beats paying! The reason you don't see an installed photo is because the steel rivet nuts are coming by conventional mail from North Carolina, they were shipped yesterday(8/13).... Oh... the holes(down on the bent end) are purposely shaped the way they are. Each allows some adjustment so that when I install the rivet nuts, machine perfection isn't required. The holes, all of them, are designed to accept a 6mm(10mm wrench size) fastener. Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Questions from another forum....
Quote:Any resolution for the coil mount yet? Quote:Just a thought. I'm thinking of mounting mine on the back of the head and running the plug wires into the valley from the back and making a smooth plug valley cover. As of now.... the coil pack is being relocated to the passenger inner fender. There are 2 nuts already in the inner fender, I just need to do a little reshaping of the mount and I should be set mounted MAP sensor in the background Dan - You can | ....
