cannabolics hachi...
It's time for an update
Work is going slower and slower... Anyways, I've decided that I'll leave welding the shock nest until I'll have the diff under the car. Meantime I'll just prepare as much as I can.... I'll leave that for now. I've also sealed the compartment pocket and cleaned/put together the pan hard mount. ...and last the right side fender I still have this hole left ...and that so '80ties sunroof. Thanks to szczursk I have a 'complete' roof I also need to spot weld the engine bay and take care of the rust at the bottom of the McPherson "towers":D I've also given it a thought if I should deal with this stuff. I think I'll just cut it out and weld new stuff in... Philip |

The question is translatet to english:
Where are you going to cut the old roof??? Do you plan cut out the old pillar and put in the new one, or would you like to transfer just the roof skin?? |

MartinS : He didn't ask about transfering the skin only - but nice addition ;-)
That is what Phil will do, just the roof skin - no point in cutting the pillars in a perfectly straight, and undamaged car. Lochun: Many AE86's look like they have no rust, and can be repaired by grinding/sanding the surface rust, and then repainting, sealing, and they will last for many years, but if you pull them apart like Philip has, you will see the rust that his has. If you want to see AE86's like swiss cheese, have a look at other AE86's in Poland, there are many ;-) I even might have two Anyway, looking bloody good. Nice to see you working. Everytime I look at those rear fenders it makes me think about changing the Starlet ones I already put on... arrggghhh. Always remember: Rev it till it blows, then back off a bit... What fenders are those? Doesnt look quite like the VW golf ones to me, but similar.
And a big thumbs up for the restoration works.. it all looks very expertly done. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Those are MK1 golf fender.
I am going to deal with the roof just like dAYTONA said. No need to cut a straight car. Rob, I can change those fenders for you. Have the experience Cut out my newly, fresh installed fender yesterday. I wasn't happy. There was a very small gap in some places. The right side has more panel cut out from the body and less from the golf arches and although it's just a very small margin (2-4mm), it's more difficult to join the plates before welding(lack of equipment). Looked at it once more yesterday (the gap) and got wild with the grinder. The arch is out and I will hopefully get it done properly today. I really made it hard for me. The last pic of the fender doesn't show the additional spot welds I put on there. I almost covered the whole joining area, so that meant a lot of carefully grinding. Sometimes you need to go backwards and redo stuff again to get some new skills, like for eg. patience Philip |
