Any ideas on how to get scratches off the centerplate and get it "shiny" again?

I've been reading up on a technique with 2500+ wet sandpaper and soapy water, then polish afterwards?

We use it on the plexiglass side windows of my friend's rallycrosscar
and it works perfectly.
bring it on with a towel and then polish with a soft towel
ofcourse it works only with small scratches
daily driver avensis 2.0 d4d and Yaris 1.0
weekend driver 1985 AE86

that will do the trick... you can also refresh all your plastic lights with this...
