Which standalone ECU for a Blacktop???
I've searched on the forum but I could not find a resent topic on this.

I want to run my 20v BT on a standalone ECU, but I don't have a big budget. (as always lol)
So what are the options?

Sofar I found the well known Megasquirt, Omex and VEMS ecu's.

The MS is the cheapest probably, but you need to build it yourself, and I've got enough other work on the car as it is so that is not my favorite.
So the Omex and VEMS then, as far as I can see they are pretty close with the VEMS beeing cheaper.

What other makes do you guys know of, or better yet are you using?

Greets,

You can buy pre-assembled megasquirts too. Advantage is that there are some people with experience around in Holland.

Other option (cheap but high quality pre-assembled megasquirt) is the KDFI. Try google for some results.

A pedal to steer the rear

A lot of 20Vs in South Africa run Dicktator management. The cheapest SA you can get. Last time I've asked it was 350 EUR + shipping. Plenty of maps and manuals available for 20V Hurray!

I've heard of KDFI, and it's certainly an option!

But I want to find out more before I buy anything. Smile

Never heard of it to be honest, but I'll look into it, thank you. Thumbs up!

So now we got:

- Megasquirt
- KDFI
- VEMS
- OMEX
- Adaptronic
- Dicktator

Anyone has exeperience with one of these, or better yet, more than one of these ECU's?

My aim is full sequential set-up, wasted spark seems so....wasted.
Plus I want to use Coil on plug's and it's better to only load these these up when they are of any use, that's my feeling anyway.

I want to install the ecu and wireing myself and have it running on a basemap, so this has to be available.
When it's running a friend of mine who is mapper will make a good map for it.
A mapper can only do so much on a day so I will do final details while driving the car daily if needed at all.

personaly I went for the Megasquirt option - if you are not in a hurry you can opt for the new MS3 which allows you to run fully sequential... there are quite some basemaps around for it as well - some better than other but in the end you just need something to start with anyway.
As you want to go fully sequential anyway I think that Haltech offers complete systems as well for not too much money.

If it was for me I would choose a megasquirt II with sequential option.
You could buy it assembled, and now it's avaible in plug n' play.
it's cheaper than haltech, an there is a big community around this product.

Myself, I'm megasquirting an 4age bluetop with ITB

@Bean,

Haltech,
I'll look up some prices, it's added to the list. Thumbs up!
MS3 is no out yet?

Superli,

It looks like Megasquirt is indeed the most populair in the AE86 community, it's a big candidate because of that, it means lots of info and if problems arise. Thumbs up!

I'm also in contact with Jan Pederson, he's working with VEMS, I'll follow him for a while too.

@Aram: MS3 hardware is out, althoug supply is still limited but the firmware is not in the final stage yet... you could achieve the same results with an MS2 though (some more mods to make to be able to run fully sequential) and MS2 will only have a resolution of 12x12 for ignition, whereas MS3 has 16x16 for both... not a real downside realy...
