Among DIY/cheap ones I prefer VEMS, although Megasquirt has best support.
Don't know much about more expensive ones. |

If you have a budget, get yourself something non-DIY.
According to more knowledgeable people than me the following brands should be good. Somewhat affordable: -Omex -DTA Fast Bit more expensive: -Haltech -Kronenburg (KMS) The latter is a dutch product so might be favorable from a support standpoint. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

You should also take into account possible future plans regarding engine choice.
If you plan on going turbo in the far future for example. IVe got a haltech which i like but a cheaper option might be an ecumaster EMU ecu. Jeroentje tuning sells these and i'm hearing positive feedback. AE86 Levin |

I´ve used OMEX, Emerald and Haltech on 4AGE´s before, doesnt really matter wich one you choose.
They all do the same job. I´d personally advise you to find someone who´s willing to map it first and ask what ECU´s he´s used to, not ideal if you find a cheap ECU, but noone want to map it... 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

20V blacktop. what kind off ecu???
Theres a South African ECU which name escapes me, more than reasonably priced and they provide a map for 20v`s too.
They actually got quite a few 20v`s in South Africa (With oil cooling because of warmer temperatures too), so should be simple to find this thing, I`ll try to look for it and provide link. Edit: I think it was this one, http://apc-online.co.za/shop/index.php?m...ucts_id=13 Depends if that is South African Rands anyway. From what I`ve read on SA forums on the user side of these ECU, it`s not a bad piece of kit as it controls VVT and coils (36-1 trigger wheel) and anything else you want to throw at it, then again I don`t know how/if it works in colder climates and thinner air? 1x AE86 84` Zenki Coupè Levin 4A-GE 20v 1x AE86 83' Zenki Coupe Levin 4A-GE 16v 1x TA60 82' Sedan 2T 8V 1x TA40 78` MK1 Zenk/Pre-Facelift Wagon 4A-GE 16v |

ECU is only as good as the person you have to map it perfectly... all the above are pretty good... personally i'd run DTA or Omex
