Project D Wrote:you don't get my point but whatever.... Sounds like you didn't get him either And you are wrong, even with 195/50 R15 and 4.1 FD you get 98 km/h at 7500 rpm. That's theory, on the road you will have 3% slipping so you really need 8000 rpm AND 4.1. And i don't know many people running 4.1, not on track cars at least. So, third gear is pretty much a must. Or if you considered 60mph instead of 100km/h. In that case, 2nd gear should be enough with 8000 rpm OR 4.1 FD |

btw. i got to run ~8sec with stock cams and ITB's. To me, 7.3 sounds great, and anything below 7 is just insane in 1.6 N/A and AE86 chassis.

Project D Wrote:Even with a weak 4AG, if it can rev OVER 7500rpm you can go over 60mph in 2nd gear Since the speed it directly dependent to the engine speed, changing the cams will change nothing if you're not able to rev higher !!! totta Crolla Wrote:was that a 5.3 with standard T50 then ? Ehm nope. Stock 4.3 rear end but a cheater engine and blower. Box ratios real similar to T50. 1st and second are useless. Will chirp the tires into third and then settle down. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

Project D Wrote:Camshaft change the rev limit of an engine ? NO ! Hmm... stock and bigger camshaft don't get together well. Same as stock cams and 8000+ rpm. But, when you put some 288+ cams and aftermarket ECU you will be more than capable to rev above 8500. Stock cam won't to that, so in a way, camshafts do limit the engine |

With bigger cams your expect your pic power above the factory one (bigger cam don't do that well without higher compression also ^^) But: totta Crolla Wrote:pretty much stock '86 apart from smallport engine and inlet with CatCams 260/266 cams.Nothing except camshaft... However it works out I took it to the limiter in 1st then 2nd gear. (There is no way I could get 7.3 0-60 with another gear change in there)
The power comes in strong at about 5200rpm and explains why the quarter mile time is not that good by comparison to the 0-60 time. 3rd gear is just a bit too tall. The meter is accurate to around 1 wheel revolution over a mile. The difference maybe in the tyre size, I'm using Yokohama A021R's 185/70/13 An analogue brain in a digital World |
