Coilover help
Hello again,

I just spent 10 mins typing this post then lost my internet connection so here i go again! forgive me if i miss something out.

Right my front drivers side coilover has lost all its gas and has no dampening at all i can literally lift and drop my wheel with ease when its in the air. I'm not sure what make the fronts are but there really old and im think im running chopped springs on the rear! (i only assume this because of how low the car is)

Its been like this for a month now but I've had no money to replace it. I should be getting £900 soon from selling my daily so now new coilovers are an option or are they?

I have had a quick look and seen that the easy to find kits are like £1000 to £1200 I'm looking to get change from my 900, am i being realistic?

Are there any cheaper kits on offer that don't supply rear coilovers, I really don't want to have to do the work involved in fitting the rears are there any kits available that require minimal modification?

Can someone educate me on whats on offer for AE86 suspension!

Thanks in advance, i'm sure i've missed something My first post was a lot more detailed but i cant really remember what i wrote!

Oh and this car is my drift/daily although i dont think the ride comfort will be an issue as it cant get worse than what it is and i can live with that!

As you are based in the uk, Driftworks used to sell a lovely set of CS2´s, ain´t listed anymore, but give them a ring to see if the can still get them.

Other from that BC coilovers are cheap and still not bad. It really whould be intresting to have a look under your car to see what you got, might just need a new set of front shocks, since you already got coilovers.
You can spend all the extra money on other parts Smile

BTW, there are no modifications required to fit rear coilovers, not sure where you looked that up.
But if you´re really bothered, MCN does sell them individually.

driftworks coilovers for an AE86 are still available but are not in stock at the moment. I recently asked for a quote and they told me.

Thanks for the help!

Just went on the MCN sport website and saw they do coilover replacement shock for 160 Euro each anyone had any experience with these? I may have to get them and have a load more money to throw at my car! you may have saved me a tonne of money!

They guy who sold me my 86 said that heavy welding is needed to fit rear coilovers on 86's and i thought i had heard that elsewhere, is there no truth to this at all?

I got 1 pic of my coilover that has collapsed its not the best pic and i'm not sure if it will be any help identifying them

Original strut, welded coilover kit over it.
hard to tell the brand for that kind of product Undecided
Anyway, you should be able to use AVO (MCN) shock on it since they are made for stock strut Smile

No welding involved for rear coilovers, just bolt in, look at the pics at the MCN page. I can olny think of welding if you´re reinforcing the shock brackets.

The MCN front shocks are the right replacement for what you got.

^^ i have a question about this? The stock setup at the rear uses seperate spring and shock but my coilover is 2 in 1 design on the rear. Can the lower mount of the shock at the axle handle all the forces put on it? Or should i go back to seperate spring/shock setup?

That´s what I´m saying, companies who sell 2 in 1 struts don´t recomend to reinforce the mount, but if you´re feeling unsafe you can allways reinforce it.
Never heard of a snapped mount before...

We have everything in stock at MCN and our suspension is the best on the market

our rear coilovers fit with no modifications needed. we have sold units all over the world and there has never been a problem with the lower shock mount or upeer shock mount. It would take much more force than the car can ever apply to give problems

our suspension is on special offer at the moment
