track day update!

managed to get everything done ahead of time, my mate badger (who has a 462whp fd3s) came up and towed the trailer so i didnt have to hire a ute. decided to let him have a drive since hes never been behind the wheel of an AE86 before, and also cos his batty hasnt been going for ages and i know what its like to wanna drift and not be able to, plus he helped me out with somewhere to stay when i got here..

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

overcame the getting stuck on trailer by jack knifing it into my driveway and taking the bumper off

all loaded up

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

i love riverside

stopped on the way to put half a tank of gas in, rather than filling it right up badger said hed bring petrol cans to keep the weight down, also checked the tyre pressure all round, done, ready to roll

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

arrived and signed in and got on track. since it had been a month it took a few laps to get back into it, took two go-pros along so got some better footage, but like last time they had both ran out of battery before the end of the day Sad

heres a couple runs from early on, was told i had to do statics off the line, thats the standard apparently!

same run from the outside

but fuck that, need as much speed as i can possibly get before the corner so stopped

getting there!

bit of in car, sun kinda blocks the view

let badger have a play, he fuckin loved it.. took him a while to get used to it, he said its like nothing hed driven before.. he kept going too slow so when he went out for a second go i said he had to keep his foot flat the whole time, he got used to the car after a while and started getting some good slides happening..

then i took one of my mates gfs out

which was the last run before the go-pro ran out of power which is a bit of a shame! in the last half hour there was only about 5 cars left on the track so they didnt make me stop on the front straight.. when i went from a stop i could only get to 110 before the first corner but cos i could keep going i was entering the first corner at over 150, i even clutched it left before bringing it back right once, was fuckin awesome

i was coming down the straight and the marshalls waved for me to stop, he goes “last lap, make it count!”, so i launched the car hard and it started spluttering, then there was a loud screeching sound so i pulled over and had a look, the bolt holding the altinator to the bracket had come out so i turned it off and pushed it back into the pits. such an awesome day although i did have a few too many passengers, only got about 15 minutes in the car by myself but it was still a lot of fun, managed to get through 4 tyres where as last time I only got through one, must be getting better, haha

loaded the car back on using qrs loading dock Tongue

prolly gonna go out again to the next one on the 29th, not 100% sure tho

fuck it who am i kidding, im gonna call tomorrow and book, will just take some managing of time and dates, got a bit of stuff to do around that time..

one of the photographers said he got heaps of photos of my car, so i flicked him some cash and hes posting me a cd, will chuck em up when i get it

riversides

got home today, put a bolt back in the bracket, put tension on the belt and tightened it, started it up, sweet, took it up the road, sweet.. its got some pull this car! especially being alone in it, goes well

also sold the 15" formula mesh tonight, "daily" car prolly going next weekend too Sad

Earlier I had decided I wanted a change and was planning on going to Japan. Unfortunately purchase of the yellow AE86 meant there wasn’t enough time and money to go this year so I have decided I will start preparing early so I can go next year. Unfortunately this meant I had to sell my AE86 Sad

I put it up for sale and a young man named Chris came to look at it. He really liked it and really wanted to buy it. After we discussed it and he left I spent a lot of time thinking about it, he was a genuine buyer so reality set in. I had to message him apologetically and say that I couldn’t do it, and that I had decided to part it out instead.

We kept talking over the next couple of weeks and I kept trying to convince myself that as much as I didn’t want to part with it, for me be able to go to Japan it had to be done. So a deal was made that suited both parties and he came and collected the car on saturday.

I had to have one last photo shoot so here are some final pictures.

Then we loaded the car on the trailer, and I bid thee a sad farewell. Sad

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

Sigh..

Anyway, since the ADM went on the R101s I only have one set of 14″ wheels left, the Casablanca 8. I’d really rather put them away for later so I went looking for some wheels and I found 3 pairs I wanted to buy. I bought 2 pairs from Daniel at JDMWheels (JDMWheels.com.au, he posts worldwide! can find wheels for you in japan etc, can be emailed on [email protected]) and I found a pair on eBay which Daniel was kind enough to collect for me as they were in Sydney.

The first pair are are SSR Riverside R109s – 14×8 -3, the second pair are Gallop Racing Mesh – 14×7.5 -4 and the third pair are Gen 2 SSR Superstars – 14×7.5 -1. The Superstars aren’t in the best condition but I’ll give them a clean up and paint, I think they’ll come out awesome.

Daniel emailed me through some pics of the wheels.

And a sneaky pic beside his AE71

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

Will get some more pictures when they arrive.

I decided to buy a zenki lip as the one on the car had been given a hard time at the track so found one on a forum and bought it, went to pick it up today. Quite an awkward item to be carrying on a bike!

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

I gave the lip a couple of coats of bumper black and whilst waiting for the paint to I gave the bike a long overdue clean.

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

Gave the lip a few more coats then washed the car.

While the car was still wet I put a JustJDM sticker on the rear window, happy to give Craig a bit of advertising as he’s helped me out a lot over the years.

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

The paint had dried so I took the old lip off and attached the new one. I wasn’t happy with the way the previous lip was mounted but there were that many holes in it, it wasn’t really possible to re-mount it.

Track day on the 29th! Im going back to NZ on the 25th to sell my 20v Sad and a few other parts.. Have a few guys on the lookout for a Trueno for me in Japan, will update when new things happen Smile

Thanks for reading! Big Grin
