Cambelt Snapped
My cambelt snapped friday afternoon.

Bearing in mind I had minimal head shave, 1mm gasket and cat catms 8.5/9.0 lift, what are my chances of it all being f*cked?

With almost 1.5mm more lift than OEM... A lot Undecided
If it's not, you're very lucky !

100% some valves are bent.
Very lucky if you will be able to reuse your head.
Though luck.

True... with those specs... possibly some row of valves is possibly bent...

Check it carefully

Any clearances opened up, those are the bent ones?

So what!

I have only checked the movement of the camshafts which are not seized.

Test.... since you say you can rotate the cams...

view each bucket and see if they all come back to the same "rest" position (you might use a feeler gauge) after the cam lobes are pointing away from the bucket. Any "low" buckets(excess clearances) means you bent a valve.

That was going to be test after I have got the crank pulley off. Bolt is a bugger to move currently.

I am also able to turn the crank by hand (ratchet obviously) completely fine with no resistance, other than the weight of the crank.

Because this lottery is a bit interesting, I'm going to put my
money on no bent valves Smile My theory says that the cams did
not come to rest with any of the valves at full lift, and so they
did not hit the pistons. Easy to check with the cam covers off.
The cam lobes will be at 90 deg so the most likely rest position
is at 45 deg.

Of course, it the belt broke at high rpm, then something bad
might have happened while the cams slowed down ?

Cheers... jondee86 (waiting for results of measuring Smile )

I've got a lot on during the weekend, but will try to get it done.

The belt broke when I was doing 35 in 3rd, so only about 2.2k rpm.

I still cannot get the crank pulley bolt off - need a big old 1/2" breaker bar.
