Brake questions
I'm in the process of upgrading my brakes. I've got some questions:
In the front I will use RX7 FD calipers. What brake pads do you guys use? I'm thinking mintex pads or project µ.

The other question i've got is about the rear. I know there's a thread about golf 4 calipers with primera disks but its a bit old. Is it really a plug and play job? Are there other swaps which can be done with available parts from eu cars? I'm not interested in the jdm kits with ae101/111 brakes because the parts are hard to come by.

Personally I'm a fan of Project Mu (B-Spec are perfect for road use and spirited driving/occasional track day), only had good experiences with them. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
Can't help with the rear I'm afraid.

Im using NS400 for the RX7 FC brakes on my 86 and on the track they proved to be awesome...

I'm going RX7 FD calipers for mine and I'm hoping to get Endless Pads for it.
I've currently got them in my 86 and they are amazing!

Failing that, CL5+.

For rears, I'm leaving mine standard for now but will be installing a brake bias adjuster to balance the car back out again. Also means I can adjust the weight shift when I'm drifting and make the rear come around more under braking Smile

I rally can't decide what to get:

- Project µ HC800 ~160€
- Project µ NS400 ~100€
- Mintex ~40€
- Endless ~200€
- Hawk HP+ ~100€
- Carbotech XP8 ~120€
- CL5+ ~200€

The car will be mainly used as weekend racer and will see alot of trackdays. In theory the NS400 or even the mintex should do the job but I'm leaning torwards the HC800 or the Carbotech XP8.
I want to upgrade the rears to keep the braking balanced a brake bias adjuster is going in aswell Smile

A brake bias adjuster isn't going to improve anything in your case since it's useful only when you have too much braking power toward the rear.

Based of my own calculations (if you apply the same pressure on front and rear)
OEM brake bias:
65/35%

RX7 setup:
72/28%
and that's IF you use the same brake pads on both axles !
If you trow something like the HC800 at the front and keep some generic pads at the rear you are closer to 80/20% = NOT GOOD !!! (except if you have a very poorly balanced car)

In the back I thought about ferodo ds2500 in combination with the golf calipers and the 258mm primera disks which should even the brake balance a little. Also I never intended to use generic pads in the rear regadless which breaks will be used in the back Wink

How did You calculated the break bias? I'm really interested in this Smile

Not sure where you found the naming for the Project Mus but as mentioned the B-Spec are an in between of the TypeNS and HC+. The later is a bit overkill for most (your discs will warp way before the pads and cold performance is not ideal for street use).

PS: unless your pricing is shipped and taxed, the NS can be had for €60 on http://www.PERFECTRUN.JP (this is pads only without shipping or taxes).

HC800 will be way too much....

Ill throw you an example... My brake rotor temp's after a 20min session were (90º) aprox.

That means even the disc is not HOT enough for the NS400 to perform.......

So.... that being said..... NS400 should pull the trick

The prices are shipped but some of them are without tax so this woukd add also a bit.

The reason I shooting this extreme torwards the big stuff is becuase on my civic last winter I had no brakes after 4 laps on the Ring. The pads (Brembo hp2000) just had given up. Don't want to let this happen again as it where horrible...

Pack I really can't belive that the rotors where only 90° after a 20min session. 150-250° sounds more realistic to me. This also depends on the track and driving style of course.
