AE86 starter options
I was thinking to buy an aftermarket starter but there are so much different types. Which one is the best to go for? The 4age AE92 (28100-15190) seams like a good deal, small and light.
This is what I found on http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums...6326b00512: "There are 3 basic types of starter motor that fit the AE86, or any RWD 4A motor. All starters listed fit the AE86 unless said. Normal type 0.8kw starter, 4.40kg: 28100-15031 4A-C Auto 28100-15060 4A-C 28100-15170 4A-GE, with heat sheild 28100-15160 AW11 [attachment=14314:attachment] This starter came on AE71, AE86, both 4A-C and 4A-GE. And AE82 both 4A-C and 4A-GE, and some AE92s with 4A-GE. The 4A-GE version came with a heat sheild, the 4A-C version did not. That is the only difference. This common 0.8kw starter is NiponDenso and shares many parts with other ND starters. eg, the TE72 starter is the same, except the front housing is different. Reduction type 1.0kw starter, 3.90kg: 28100-15130 AE86,AW11,AA63 4A-GE 28100-15180 AE82,AE92 [attachment=14315:attachment] This starter did come on some AE86's as well as AE82 and AE92 and others. For spare parts, you can find the same style starter on almost every other Toyota from 5E Startlet/Paseo to 3S-GTE Celica, 7M-GTE Supra, HiLux, Dyna, 7A-FE etc... If it looks the same, most parts will swap over. You just need the 4A-GE housing that bolts to the bellhousing to make it work. This info will help you if you have a dead armature, or clutch or stator yoke. But the solenoid housing is only common to the 4A and 4K starters. Planatary gear reduction type 0.8kw starter, 2.85kg: 28100-15190 AE92 [attachment=14317:attachment] This is the type with the long through bolts. It does not look like a reduction starter at first, but it has planatary gears inside and is. It came on some AE92s with 4A-GE. Its main advantage is that it's very light. This style of starter is used on other AE92s with 4A-FE, and AE101, AE102 etc includiing the AE101 20 valve, BUT these ones do NOT fit the AE86 as they are mounted on the back side of the engine. Only the one off the AE92 4A-GE fits. But a 20valve or 7A-FE starter will be good for parts if you already have a 4A-GE one." Fun is not the straight line! |

Quote:Planatary gear reduction type 0.8kw starter, 2.85kg: This is the most sought after starter. Apparently it has more toque and makes a cool noise I have one tucked away, and will install it next time I have the exhaust system off the car... too much hassle otherwise. Cheers... jondee86 |

My pics, that's the one.
Looks the same as a 20 valve, but the chassis is different to fit on the correct side. 20 valve doesn't fit but is a good source of parts |

Is there any chance that:
28100-15190 Toyota planetary type has te same part number for ae101 starter and the ae92 starter? If no i can understand that only ae92 4-age starter will fit to rwd? And the 4a-fe will not fit then? The case is,I want to buy starter which is stated as for 1.6gti 1987-1995 years with these numbers, and put it on my rwd 4age, any chance it will fit? we ride together we die together |

Sam Q is selling an adapter plate for a Honda starter he sourced in Australia.
Anyone knows what Honda can supply a starter for the AE86, both 16V and 20V engines? I know for a fact that some JDM starters that come with 86's come with a blue spacer (probably from cusco) Regards |
