I posted that video on a couple of whatsapp channels and it gives mixed responses. What I like is the (scholar) approach of Mr. Regular, comparing it to the Beatles of the automotive world. More what it encompasses. Why it is more important than the (according to Mr. Regular) MR2. Why it is more expensive. And why I can never never ever look at white TE37s and not think about dripping white fluffy fluid on them and then wiping them clean again with tissues!
The reactions I got were very different. Most people were just simply amazed how this could fetch 40000 dollars. It's still USDM and not JDM. In contrary to what Mr. Regular says, its interior is not original. How can it be a true replica if it still has a 16 valve? How can it bea true replica as it is a kouki? How can a replica carry TE37s? 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

So erm, I feel like an idiot for asking this, but what is this and why is it on most of the shakotan cars?

These wheels were nicknamed the Sakura wheels in the west because of the cherry blossom heart of the rim. Then Rota knocked off this design and called it the Aleica Sakura. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Similarly we call the OEM rims pizza cutters, but nobody knows which of the two are supposed to be pizza cutters. Also at first I confused Yayoi with Yaoi. Don't google that second one immediately as it can be considered nsfw. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Big thanks to R.ave for this one as he shared a small clip taken from this video with a two door panda silver Trueno that resembles mine a lot! The sections start at 12:08 and 15:54:

Is the Yayoi sticker just a popular choice even for cars that use different wheels?
I'm building another plastic model right now and one of those Yayoi stickers came with the wheels (wheels are SSR Mkii). I'm not trying to be annoying, it's just that I keep seeing it on a lot of different cars that clearly don't have Sakura rims. Including this car on SSR Mkiii: |

It is an icon for the Japanese car culture, so I would say it's a statement. That Celica also has a S.E.V. Marchal sticker, even though it doesn't feature any of the S.E.V. Marchal products.
Similarly, I once featured an Import Bible Sakura sticker on my Carina even though I don't own such cool rims. The sticker turned out to be worthless as well as it faded and got brittle within a few years. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

They don't do anything, they're just part of 80s car culture. Feu Orange by Power uP, on Flickr |
