How do you drift ?
I have watched Zax´s video´s & we drive very similar - HARD on power & vaery much maximum attack all the time.

Yess. you can drive fast - use the steering wheel to make the car swing & make it drift - no need for power there. but trhe drifts will be a lot shorter. I often us the revlimiter an an "help" to make the car slide/drift. hard to explain though. I´ll post a video of it soon. I cant drift either...I'm able to control lower speed tailslides that I get when I corner a bit to enthousiasticly or in the rain, but really keeping it sideways is a disaster. I can only practice lefthand drifts cause my lsd only works in that direction. Getting it sideways in a righthand corner is only possible with higher speed weightshifting combined with power-over.
Anyways..I'm not even going to try it the coming weeks. The shitty springs I bought are so weak that the tires rub when I'm steering full lock and the car rolls to that side. I actually rolled the wheelarch lip quite nicely by cornering to fast..too bad it still rubs like crazy. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

How do you drift ?
Using less power though when drifting my max rev is normally between 5 and 6k

Ah found a new way of drifting this weekend.
Steering Drift. I went into the corner and i steered slowly and relaxed while giving a little gas i pushed my steering wheel hard making the rear tires lose grip its a fun and safe way for my feeling cause you still have loads of traction in the front. How do you drift ?
Ain't it easy to drift an AE? I've tryed it in a Mx5 and a MR2.
The MR2 just has a lot of grip, but when you lose traction it kicks out immediatly. It doesn't spin, but it also doesn't give a warning that you are about to lose traction in the rear. The Mx5 is driftable. Just upset the balance or go over the limit of the car and it will slide. It's easier if you put like in 2.5bar in the rear tires. This is with a Torsen diff so overinflating the rear tires might not be neccesary with a clutch-type LSD. With an AE you have even less weight on the rear tires. So doesn't that mean it's really easy to slide the car? |

I wouldnt call it really easy. It will slide if the diff is okay, but doing it on dry tarmac is not very easy with only 120hp at you disposal. A nissan 200sx for example is said to be a more easy to drift car. Probably due to the longer wheelbase.
It's not like getting in a car and just start sliding all day, like some people think an ae86 will do. It takes a bit of skill to do it right. The difference between stock hachi's and stock mx5's is that an mx-5 will oversteer over the limit, the ae86 would probably plough straight ahead due to excessive understeer. They really need suspension work to make them handle correctly. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
