How fast is a 86 with 20V?
As Im considering to drop a 4AGE 20V in my hachi sometime I would like to know how much faster it would be...

A std. hachi is able to reach 100km/h in about 9 sec.. If everything thats changes is the engine how long would it take?

I'm guessing not that much faster...The extra 15-20 ponies will be hardly noticable, I'm guessing that you "might" shave of a second..(but I think it will be less). There will be other benefits though..a nice free revving engine (even better then before) and some added flexibility, better throttle respons and a potentialy orgasmic intakesymphony..

+15 hp!?! I know that they havent got 160/170, but 140 isnt much! People I talked to got 145 - 155 hp using std. ECU on a silvertop...

BTW if go with this setup, Ill properbly be using a DTA ECU...

I would think twice about using the DTA ecu. While it is a fine unit that features much of the capabilities of the more expensive ECU's, there are some serious issues with the ease of use..
Prepare to swap MOST of the sensors on the block. DTA works (or at least used to work that way 1.5 years ago) with specific sensor inputs (usually GM sensors). You have to swap over all of these sensors if you can find the correct ones. The sensor part numbers that DTA mentions in the manual are NOT correct!
The tuning sofware included with the ECU is from the stoneage. Great if you have to tune on an ancient 486 laptop, but it lacks some neccesary options. Blending of the fuel and ignitioncurves in a graphical way is not supported. it can plot 3D curves, but you can not manipulate them. Shame, because it is real help in the first stages of tuning.
The most irritating thing of the unit is the way the mixture trim and ignition advance box works (REALLY expensive ad-on from DTA, not much more then a box with some trim potentiometers, find a wiring diagram form the internet and build it yourself.). Basically, u are finetuning a specific area of the MAP, you adjust the fuel and timing of that cell untill its ok. The output from the engine increases, so the engine rises in RPM a little bit and the settings from the previous map cell that you had just set are transferred to the cell next to it. The same happens when you make a change that lowers RPM..irritating.
If I may make a recommendation..The AEM ecu from the US looks like a really good unit. Its still cheap, but runs much more advanced software. You can adjust the sofware to use the existing sensors and they have a very good and cheap WBO2 sensor that plugs in easily and allows you to auto tune (auto tune on the DTA was terrible).
Just my two cents...

BTW, I'm figuring the silvertop has around 140 bhp. Waste of time if you are after more power. I once switched from a 90bhp engine to a 130bhp engine. The difference in seat of the pants feeling was negligable, even though the car was 1.5 seconds quicker to sixty and I had 1200 extra RPM's to play with..The only reason that I would want to switch over to a 20V would be the IRTB's and associated feel and sound.

hmmz 9 sec to 100???? i have done faster with mine and mine is slow.......

well having had the pleasure of feeling the power of a silvertop its more than you think the blacktop will give great advantage the engine weight is just a little more than the 16v but the increase is much noticeable

seeing a crx vtec go in less than 7.5 an ae86 with blacktop is much faster

do the math

The spec says 0-100km/h: 8,9 s... And you might be right the 7,5 s Thumbs up! Thats not too bad Thumbs up!

Ill rethink the DTA solution - thanks Nohachi! Someone who knows a bit about this stuff just told me that it was a good way to go. Ill chech again though Smile

There is no way in hell that a silvertopped AE86 will be much quicker then a CRX vtec. For what its worth, I would put my money on the crx. It's a car thats almost as light as the AE86 but puts out at least 150 crank horsepower. The FWD driveline is MUCH more efficient in putting that power to the wheels, and honda drivelines are beautiful. In the end I'm guessing the honda has a 30hp advantage at the wheels, from there its up to the driver.
I'm not saying this to put you down. Its just that if you choose the silvertop for its power, you will be dissapointed. Sure in a AE86 stripped to 800kg and some sticky rubber, you might be able to get into sub 8 second 0-60's. But isn't going to be easy. Be wise, choose the GZE for power and look at the 20v for character. For that money it could also be worth your while to make your own IRTB or carb setup. Perhaps with better cams. The end result would make the power you want, have the IRTB respons and feel, but would be nowhere as driveable as the 20V in daily traffic.
(As for the 200hp 20v with just a piggyback...show me the dynoplot or a video from the dyno session and I will eat my own hair (ala Clarkson), hows that for faith..)
