How fast is a 86 with 20V?
i have driven in the passenger seat of E10 with silvertop and the TE71 blacktop from my friend is on the road i also know of an E9 with a blacktop which isn't modified but with the right ecu you can put it out to 180-190 bhp on the crank
the silvertop is afm and so has a disadvantage the map sensored blacktop beats the vtec without trouble never go for a silvertop if going for a 20v go for black its map sensored and can put out much higher than the silvertop Cars: "99 Lexus IS200 "86 AE86 Kouki Panda Levin GT-Apex (restore project) "84 AE86 Zenki Blue Levin (project racer) Motorcycles: "02 Yamaha R1 "02 Honda Hornet S "08 BMW R1200GS |

Once again.. there is no way in hell that a stock black or silvertop will put out anywhere near 180 bhp. The stock ECU is already tuned within 95% of the engines capability and is better configured than a experienced engine tuner using a standalone motec or better ecu could ever dream of achieving. Emissions testing is NOT done at wide open throttle! So thats NOT a limiting factor.
Claiming 30 extra horsepower from just a piggyback is not smart and indicates a lack of knowledge on even the most basic forms of engine tuning. Edit: maybe this is a better way of formulating things..still stand behind some of the statements so I left those alone,.,. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

Easy now guys! No need to get personal!
With that said... I think 190 hp sound like a lot, but I know a guy who claims to have 185 hp on a std blacktop. Im not sure if its true though - I sure would like to see a dyno plot! Do anyone know what a blacktop costs in your countries? Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

Figures usually mean squat anyways because in many situation they are just seat of the pants gambles at HP.
THat said, any engine can be tuned to a zillion hp, its just a question of how long it takes before the damn thing blows up Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

Trust me..its not true. The cams on the 20V are just to mild for these kinds of performance numbers..Maybe a 20V running at 5 psi boost could achieve them.
People can claim al they want..usually they feel a need to justify the massive investment they just made. [EDIT] I got tired of this and calculated the maximum horsepower that can be supported by the 20V's 295cc injectors. This would be around 180bhp, so anyone claiming more than this on a tsock engine and stock fuel pressure has a magic engine on his hands. Hehehe, nice when you have those sorta tools at hand and the knowledge to use it I think you're getting a bit to much into this man, people always claim the weirdest things, sometimes they've found something you haven't heard of, often they are just exaturating. I know I do that last thing all the time You need to value those remarks for what they are worth, not for what they say literaly. So a 20V probably can be tuned to be a nice potent engine, even if it doesn't reach over 180hp it can still feel like it. Maybe it does catch up or has caught up to a CRX, maybe thats just due to driver skill difference. Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

How fast is a 86 with 20V?
Interesting subject.
My silvertop makes 180(ish) bhp if I believe the dyno sheet that came with the car from Japan. Its had quite a lot to make that power (ribbed block, crank, rods, pistons, head work, valve work, cams, adjustable pulleys, injectors, ITBs, tubular manifold). It feels brisker than the other hachis I've driven - but I've never driven a standard one. I think though mapping alone its hard to get big gains from little engines without changin a fair bit. Now if you are running a blower... thats a different story I guess. My good friend dingy (has a completely mental 450+bhp cossie powered mk2 ford escort) happens to have a CRX parked on his drive - I wonder if an experiment is in order Regards Ian. |

How fast is a 86 with 20V?
Guys..lets see here regarding 0-100 times / 201m & 42m times
8,9sec is accurate from the factory specs My ae86 GT-S -86 did 90% stock with 15" 195/45-15 tires full interiour & just the twin carbon exhausts as mods. 9,1sec with a dragracestart - (dumped clutch @ 7000 rpm) perhaps 2 meters wheelspin & then the wheels gripped perfectly. My car reached the following speeds... topspeed @ 201m was 11.1 - 111km/h topspeed @ 402m was 17,1 - 139 km/h 60 foot times were 1,9 sec - very good for such a slow & underpowered car. the few times i have streetraced the ae86 i have beaten SEVERAL turbocars in the first 100 meters... hehehe This was 2 months after i got the car in 2003. This year new tests were done... 46 km/h in first gear @ shiftingpoint 9100 rpm. 88 km/h in second gear @ 8950 rpm. 137 km/h in third gear @ 8850 rpm 0-100 was down to 8,2 sec 201, was @ 10,1 @ 114 km/h 402m was @ 16,1 @ 144 km/h The mods done to the car you all already know. lightened - 860 kgs, stock 4-age t-vis large port engine remowed t-vis, open air filters, 2" exhaust with just a BIG japstyle muffler & the TRD highrise headers. So - there you have it in black & white guys My car will do (spedometerspeed) 177/178 in fourth gear & 217/218 in fifth gear @ 8700 rpm regarding the high revs - my AUTOMETER revcounter´s shiftlight is set @ 8700 rpm. How fast is a 86 with 20V?
good one making that much on a 16v i wonder what the bhp output would be.
Nevermind regarding the topic about 20v caus you can only judge when seeing/riding one the standard ae86 will get left far behind racing a 20v e10 so i still think the vtec crx isn't that fast Cars: "99 Lexus IS200 "86 AE86 Kouki Panda Levin GT-Apex (restore project) "84 AE86 Zenki Blue Levin (project racer) Motorcycles: "02 Yamaha R1 "02 Honda Hornet S "08 BMW R1200GS |

How fast is a 86 with 20V?
Why do you keep comparing it to a VTEC crx? Just because a 20v ae101 is faster than an ae86? I cant claim to have ever experienced a vtec's acceleration, but a simple 1.6 16v DOHC crx engine is very similar to the bigport 4age in output (probably a bit more powerfull, a bit less rev-happy). You've seen what it takes to make 180hp from a 20v.
A stock vtec crx in good shape does around 135hp to the wheels with a manual gearbox. Here's a lil quote I found about power at the wheels on a 20v: Quote:someone posts about their '96 rolla with 20v is making 101whp and complains.....the almighty bill sherwood replies and says "That's about right at the wheels for a 20v. Nothing to worry about Now if Bill says that's correct, I think it would be fair to assume that the B16A would whoop the 20v. And I'm not a big honda lover or anything, just want to stay realistic in these matters. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
