Okay guys, I've taken a few pictures of my car just now to show the work we're busy on.

As you know before I painted my car I bought some fiberglas fenders. The reason mainly was this:

There were some other bad bits on my fender but that was the main problem. I thought fiberglas would be the way to go and when I got them I was very pleased with them. Once on the car the fit was good but not perfect. After getting the car painted however it turned out the fit was giving me troubles with my door. As Robokill proved you can fix the fitment problems with some wood and a little more work and for a long time I was planning on doing that..

That was until I bought my new lights. The fit of my new lights was terrible. I probably could have gotten it fixed but I got more and more unpleased with the fenders. Then TE71Corolla offered to fix up my old fenders and some other stuff in exchange for my fiberglas fenders. He damaged one of his fenders on his racer in a crash and fiberglas is perfect for his car even if the fitment isn't 100%, it is a racer afterallSmile

So this weekend he let me know the fenders were ready and we put them on. One thing that really really surprised me is how well the old paint job on my old fenders match with the fresh paintjob we did last year. Normally the paint fades after 23 years and you can never mix up the exact color, but right now it looks like my old fenders were painted yesterday (except for the repaired bitsSmile )

The right fender is almost like new:

The left fender definately needs to be repainted allthough the damage was so low it doesn't catch your eye right away:

I dont have a picture that shows how badly the lights used to match up with the fenders but as you can see from the pictures they fit fairly good now. Also thanks to Jaspers friend (sorry forgot his name) for polishing up the lights, when I got them they looked warn out and old, they are all shiny now. Same with my rear lenses but I didn't take a picture of that.

All I need to deside on is color. The holes for the antenna and the small blinkers will be filled up later on so the fenders will have to be repainted. I'm also having a new bootlid cleaned up that will have to be painted. I might just go with painting those in the right color and putting them on hoping they will match the color as perfectly as the last paint job. Then I wont have to redo the whole car againSmile
However on the door and on the lower seals some rust is already coming through. From the start I was planning to do my car two tones so I may deside to finally put a 2tone paint job on. Not sure yetSmile

We also installed a rebuild caliper to fix my broken one, all the other calipers will be rebuild soon and then I will post some picturesSmile

Last but not least I hooked up the top blinkersSmile See attachementSmile

Apolan, but the question is if it will still look good if I paint the underside black or antraciet aswell..

Still wondering what is better, a shiny black underside (and do the bumpers the same black), or make the underside the same antraciet color as the bumpers and the wheels....

1 Vote for flat black..Actually green and black two tone would have been my colourcombo of choice. Having seen one in true life now only makes me more sure that it is a killer look.

But about the rust..Its coming through the new paint already!? Did you skip certain steps in the prepping stage? Its about a year old now right?

NoHachi,

Well there are 3 things that went wrong:
1) we didn't pay attention to a few things. we rushed a few things
2) especially due to the fenders not fitting right the paint job got damaged in a few spots
3) we didn't properly paint the lower bit of the car, we should have put that in primer alot better but when the car is on the ground its hard for a painter to properly reach.

Really its nothing big, you actually only really notice it when you raise the car.

Major point though stays, we rushed things. I hated to much driving around in a half primered car that we just didn't take the time to finish what we started.

mux i dunno, i like it the way it is. but if you really have too much money to go paint it all again, i think you should do it whole (do the car trough and trough - inside and out, remove every little bit of rust there is). ANd while you're at it, maybe even weld in a roll cage for safety purposes.
