Timing Cambelt 4 AGE
Dear all,

Since Oktober last year I am driving a 4 age powered kit car and I was wondering how to time the cambelt correct. Everything is clear except for the two dots on the inlet and outlet camgears. They should not be up top,
but one tooth inward, is that correct ?
I do not have any markings, only the ones on the camgears ! ( I am not using a cap yet )

Thank you in advance !

Best regards

I'm afraid it's not really possible to time it properly without the backing plate installed. They should indeed not be exactly at the top, but you cant say one tooth this or that way because they both line up differently (not the same angle for both cams). You could try finding a picture of the camgears at TDC, but it would still be possible to mess up.
Just find yourself a backing plate, it's not that difficult to find 4age stuff around the netherlands. Personally I think it's a bit silly to leave the covers off, exposing the timing belt to road debris..

hmm...looking at it like that it does look like 1 tooth towards the middle is about right..BTW I have an extra backing plate at home somewhere, and I'm sure a lot of other guys have spares around as well.

Thanks a lot guys !

Changed the outlet camgear and now everything runs fine again Thumbs up!
Thanks to the picture we coul also count the number of "free" teeth on the belt between the markings to make sure everything was set ok.

Thanks for the offer Ivan regarding the backing plate. Will remeber it if necesary.

Best regards
Jos
