k40 to T50 worth the effort?
Tell me about how 'good' a T50 is
I've got almost no experience in driving a car which has a T50 box, but i've found a bellhousing for sale to switch to a T50 box on my k series engine. And since i managed to break 2 K40 boxes in 1 year and still missing the 5th gear, it sounds appealing to me to try and fit a T50.

Is it worth the effort (switching to hydraulic clutch, different driveshaft, probably cutting a new hole in the floor for the shifter etc. etc.) to switch to a T50 box?

I always liked the K40 box, it's a good box i think, but i think i'm to brutal for it Blush
And with the new engine i'm (still....) building, a little bith more strength ain't bad i think Smile

Second synchro is weak (known issue) and the fifth gear is not that much longer than fourth, so dunno if it's worth. Undecided
But then again I have never driven with a K40. Tongue

Doctor why don't you give it a try

I think that it is better to keep your setup as it is because i think it is easier to find a K40 gearbox than a T50.

Anyway can i ask you something? You may know.

I found an LSD for sale here and i wonder if it fits my housing in my KE30.What do you think?

If it's a 6" LSD it will fit, but any other won't fit. Unless you swap the complete axle over. So if it's a stock Celica/AE86 diff it won't fit sadly.

I want to be sure before i even start thinking about it, because the custom bellhousing i found is in NZ Smile
It'll cost me quite a lot before i can even begin to look out for a T50 Smile

A good reason to try the T50 then. Wink

Until he wrecks a t50 by screwing its synchrosBig Grin

Which brings up an interesting topic, I need to go and find out how much it would cost to buy a rebuild kit for a T50 and see if I can rebuild a box for funBig Grin

It cost quite a lot when I rebuilt mine. I'd say 200-300€ range.

Doc, why don't you try some cheap box with detacheable bellhousing (i.e. easy to implant) ?
I'm watching some Getrag 262-264-265 ones, not bad at all ! The 4-spd box cost ~40EU here and is strong enough to be used in 633 old BMW car.
