Thanks guys for uplifting words, im sure glad myself things are finnally moving..

robo, sure the car is nice, the body has been taken care of and has zero rust now (and hopefully it will stay like that for seasons to come) - for that im very glad as i see what rust does to our cars.. so the bassis is good, now i need a good strong rebuild as you mentioned (maybe with a minor tune-up), some nice wheels, and suspension needs work too.. but i decided to focus on the engine first so that will be my priority now - thus expect many questions to follow ghehhe

Wasn't the bussiest little bee on the forums for the past couple of months, but today i have started to take apart the engine that we pulled out 4 months ago.

The thing im most dissapointed about is that the previous owner, who obviously did some work on the engine, hasnt really done the job properly. Nor did he try. i know he had the skill, given that he's a proffesional automechanic. No major faults, just litlle its and bits like using random screws, not tightening them to specified torque settings, using non-original service material etcetera.

So the head is off, and other than thick carbon deposits and alot of dirt residue things look decent i guess.. The firrst thing i spotted was a little scratch in the 4th cylinder wall; it isnt big but you can feel it quite well. So im not sure if this calls for redrilling? - Which would obviously lead also to buying new oversize pistons. What do you think?

Tomorrow or in the following days i will be taking apart the bottomend as well and hopefully take some pics. I hope its not too messed up.

If the cylinder wall is damged to much it might need an oversize. Check if the pistons aren't oversize already. It will say 0.5 when its oversize on top of the piston.

The piston you show looks like a 10.0 because the inner is a bit higher than the edge.

You can get the US 9.3:1 pistons for bargain basement prices on ebay these days.. it will cost you a bit in performance, but you dont have a very big budget as I recall so they might be a good idea. I got some myself to rebuild my first engine with.. They come in .50 oversize too.
