Whell, it's been a whille, so, to continue...
First thing, I want to show you all how big it is to have a stiff chassis, with as little torsion sway as possible.... I wanted to do this for a realy long time, and went trough every single pic of undercar reinforcement I could find... At the end, Grga and I took left over tubes from making our formula student car last year and decided to do it right... What we did is weld "buckets" on the strongest parts of the chassis in front and back. At the back it is the tunel that goes near the silent block (the place where the rear tie rod is attached to the car), and at the front near by the steering tod, on the tunels that go upward the firewall.... You'll get it from the pics... We conected the buckets with a tube in front, and the same at the back. At first it was hard to actualy take the welding pistol and actualy burn a weld on my baby... but after 10 minutes I was riding that welding machine like a mad bull, welding the buckets in every possible way! The trick was just not to burn a hole on the car body and to make sure not to weld near the fuel links so the car wouldnt blow up... bucket where it will go bucket with bolts to screw the transversal tube welded at front done (at the back) test (Grga wheigts about 115kg... no sway nor cracking... not the best test, stress goes in other direction when driving, but seing this gives you a motivation, your job is worth the time and effort) this is how it looks when it is finished. You can see that it is non simetrical, that is because the driveshaft and the exhaust tube, we couldn't drive the tubes better... This way the exhaust still knocked on the reinforcement, but i pulled it up a bit to shut it up... Works... All I can say is that this is by far the most cheepest and efective way of making your car stiff! The story changed from the botom. The car rolls less than before some 50%, it is more stable, turns better, it is more responsive and easyer to drive from one drift to another... Braking has improved to... I know that this sounds like I have eaten some mad mushroms... trust me, I know what I am talking about... And it aint placebo either. Gjuro watched me go sideways and says that the car handles better by the eye... The thing that I am going to do next is 2 more tubes from front to back by each side so I triangulate everything even better. You can feel now that it still has some stress and bends a bit... With two more straight tubes it would be bullit proof... Just for the record.... this is a one time job... hot parts whille welding fall into the sleewe, on the head of the person welding (in this case me), in the shose (if not Dr Martens), on the hands.... So, I look like Niki Lauda now, but at least the car is 50% more responsive... Next to do are the bushings, shocks, coilovers, camberplates, engine... not necessearly in that order... Tests ran pretty good... Whent on Cro Akina, Sljeme, 3 times... boy o boy whas it fun.... And at the end of the day i ran into Jura, driving a Hachiroku that has been in "development" for more than 3 years now... It is on the road... and it is how my car is suposed to look like in a year or two... kind of... sort of... I love that car... TRD bushings and LSD, KONIi, cusco roll cage, ITB..... Gjuro came later and said the same... Hope to make my car EVO2 of that Hachi... in white... That is all for now... Summer is around the corner... I'll do some work and some pics and keep this thread alive... just... SNO-MO-BIRU project started- CHIRO |

Looks like it might actually work, although it would not be something I would do to my own car.

it does actualy work. This way the car is defined in three planes (roof, floor and the reinforcement... ) which is certainly better than 2 The down side is that you have to make it in a way not to mess up the car clerance... Roll cage is better but much work, and if you don't have a good machine to bend the tubes not changing the cross profile, it is better not to do it at all...
