Spark Plugs : which ones to use 4age ?
Dear all,
I replaced the spark plugs on my 4AGE small port. I used the same ones which were in in the engine when I bought it :
NGK BCPR6ES. Unfortunately I do not know the gap... Does anybody know this. Cannot find this data on the NGK site. Are thes NGK ok for this engine ?

I know platinum type spark plug is better, but which one to use ?
Info in the net is not so clear about this.

The manual specifies one of the following:

Copper:
NGK BCPR6EY11
or
DENSO Q20R-U11
electrode gap is 1.1 mm.

Platinum:
NGK BCPR5EP11
or
DENSO PQ16R
electrode gap is 1.1 mm.

i use copper denso and they've worked fine. Though theese are for the stock engine. Maybe smallport uses different type. ??

The plug you are using (NGK BCPR6ES) is correct for your 16V
smallport engine. Gap is 0.8mm. NGK are good plugs and I would
stay with them... I use them myself Smile

Platinum last longer, but there is no real evidence that they offer
any performance advantage on a healthy ignition system. Better to
save your money and just replace the standard plugs every 10,000km.

Can someone clear the situation?
AFAIK the BKR6EIX is for the smallport engine and the BCPR6EY for the bigport, or...?

The manual specifies parts for the stock motor - stock motor is large port. Therefore BCPR6EY are for largeport. If i remember correctly NGK catalog specifies the same. Don't know about smallport though.

All the bigport (TVIS) engines use 1.1mm gap plugs. In the
NGK range they would be :

BCPR5EIX-11 Iridium
BCPR5EP-11 Double Platinum
BCPR5EY-11 Copper

5 is the stock heat range for everyday round town driving. For racing
you might want to go to a slightly colder 6 heat range e.g. BCPR6EY-11.
I used these for years (6's) in a bigport for all types of running, and
never had a problem.

The smallport would use 0.8mm gap NGK plugs :

BKR6EIX Iridium
BKR6EP-8 Double Platinum
BKR6E Copper

Using BKR6E in my smallport and they work fine Smile NGK and Denso are
the factory recommended brands, and I wouldn't use anything else.
