The speedometer isssue has been SOLVED! Through great effort I've found the PERFECT solution!!!!!!

In essence the device pictured takes an eletronic pulse signal and generates a mechanical drive for your speedometer!!!!

Your cost $310.00 (buying the product directly... Once we know more... we may include it with the kit(adding the appropriate cost), or we may have them pre-program them for us with a unique part number.

This device is programmable for ANY electronic drive transmission/transaxle to drive ANY mechanical speedo.

back from the DEAD..........


Not sure how many have seen this, but for the past 4+ years I've been trying to get this project to be realized. My efforts in conjunction with Pineapple Racing got to be 90% completed before the costs just got too excessive/expensive.

Now 90% isn't far enough, and for about 6 months I was looking to find someone to transfer these parts to my J160 (Toyota's version of this gearbox), and see the J160 below, alongside the modified Miata (Y16M-D) gearbox, for my transmission assembly skills are not as good as my researching skills





My 6 months of disappointment have been changed to hopeful anticipation. An engineering company in Ireland has now taken up the idea, and they are VERY close to having a finished product!!!

Nice work, but so expensive, you would just go buy a tremec or another aftermarket box...

You can just plug a W55 mechanical speedo drive into an Altezza box to make it work with a cable, much cheaper than a $300 black box hahaha.

I've contacted Joe from gearboxconversions a few weeks ago. This morning he sent me an email with the following updates:

black box is about $100... and is adjustable to ANY gear ratio you have... or for us USA folks we can recalibrate kph to equal mph and therefore have a factory speedo capable of considerable speeds

True, but you can get 30/31/32/33/34/35 tooth speedo drive ratios which covers off a fair number of final drive ratios / wheel sizes etc, as that's how Toyota accounts for different final drive ratios used with the same box.

Becomes a problem when you're using a 4.5 or 4.7 final drive ratio though.
