what rack and pinions are compatible ae86

What rack and pinions are compatible for a ae 86, unsure about year, could be 85 or 86, its said to be a 85, no vin plate

I found a 82 or 83 or 80 corolla I cant remeber, but it has a 4ac in it, unsure about PS, mine has PS, but i need steering and I can get it for like 40, so I dont know. Does any one know if its compatile?

You can use a rack out of an AE71 corolla, though apparently has one less tooth on the manual rack.

Not aware if they came with power steering though. Certainly didn't in Australia.

Thanks for the quick reply. What years are AE71, I read that they were a cheaper version of the ae86, but im not sure if the US got them, I never heard of them.

I don't care about PS right now, it has a pump but its not all there so Ill worrie about that when the car is driving. I would just like to be able to steer... I figure if I can fix it for 25 and not have PS(it wouldn't work any way) then its all good.

This car has a PS cooler doesn't it? If so, do the SR5s come with those too or just the GTS?

thats like a 88 year? correct? I pulled one out at the junkyard and put them side by side and the mr2 is much longer and is not PS.

All they had as far as a corolla was a 4ac corolla from like 82 or 83 so I got that, it was 25 bucks, it looks like it should work. Its manual.

Got the steering all done, used the manual rack from earlie 80s corolla and had to use its intermediate shaft(or whatever), and its U-joint since the rack input thing was smaller... was a pain, if any one has done this with the motor in the car and didnt pull out the steering column then they have skills, I dont see how you can do it without pulling the steering column out.

and the manual brackets on the passenger side were shorter(dont know what people do about that, maybe I got them from a weird year or something) but I cut out to the ends to make like a slot and it worked... Ill definatly convert back to PS when the car is in better shape.

Thanks for the help finally got to drive my car around my yard(just to move it from where it was jacked up being worked on, it needs new tires it has 1 flat... but I can get 15 inch tires for free so no biggie.
